"No, guys, you don't get it, we have to slash disability benefits to spare up money for our 98k salaries and the unlimited cheap booze we get at work. You can't expect us to get through an entire working day sober, can you?"

It is very funny that a bunch of MPs have decided the line they're going to take is "Well, of course we're entitled to get drunk at work on the taxpayer's dime! We're so important!" I'm sure that'll go over great. Can't pay nurses more, man, that money is earmarked for cocktails.

🚨Breaking news: MPs are human and sometimes have a drink. Classic clickbait farming 👎 MPs work long days for constituents, and yes, sometimes share a drink in the evening with colleagues. Last week I was scandalously spotted with… an alcohol-free pint or two between votes 😱 But sure, let’s talk about that instead of the Greens’ wacky policies. Trying to distract us, maybe? 🙄

Ah, I see that the current political discourse in the UK is "Is it reasonable to expect that politicians shouldn't get drunk at work on alcohol subsidised by the taxpayer." So you know that seems normal.

@AdeleBanter @speakoutsister @DT_NerdyGeek You chose to say it, when you could have said nothing if you didn't know. And then when someone pointed out you were wrong, you immediately cried "No, no, no, it wasn't me, it wasn't me!" like a toddler. Anyway, here's somebody else pointing out that your statement was wrong.

Prologues are often bad because they’re heavy on worldbuilding and light on relevant characters and stakes. Prologues are good when they introduce a book’s genre/theme in a way the opening scene can’t.

@AdeleBanter @speakoutsister @DT_NerdyGeek You know full well that the cowardly part is you not taking responsibility for what you said. You made an assertion, it was wrong, it's pretty pathetic to then go "I'm just reading off Google!" as if you're incapable of doing a little more research before speaking.

@DynamoSuperX Likethe answer to 'who would win, Homelander or [X Superman-ishCharacter]' is always whoever's not Homelander, because the guy is a coward who never has to fight anyone who can hurt him. Nolan's fought other Viltrumites and won! Often! He would not struggle with the Seven.

You can just admit that you'd pick Red because you'd be scared of dying. 'Gun to my head, no other choice, I would not risk death to try to prevent other people dying,' isn't a laudable position, but it's a fairly normal one.

It is slightly funny that the entire 'Red or Blue button' argument hinges on the red buttonists going "But if everyone picked red it'd be fine," despite the fact that there is no possible world where that happens, something proved by the fact that this is an argument at all.

@thinkiamsad I saw someone describe his as the perfect example of the banality of evil, because he will construct elaborate torment nexii for poor people but in a way completely absent malice or indeed any feeling or thought at all other than "this will make a good thumbnail."

i find mrbeast fascinating in how he seems like the purest possible example of a man with zero intrinsic motivation of any kind. it's all extrinsic—money, views, being liked. i can't think of a single time i've seen him enjoy something for its own sake
emily north@north0fnorth

the real shocker for me with these videos isn’t how mrbeast comes off as sociopathic but rather how pathetic he seems. flying in youtubers from other countries to ask how to create fandom & dming people who criticized beast games 1 to ask if 2 was better comes off as so desperate

War is, in fact, overwhelmingly made up of a kind of relentless, grinding misery so incredibly banal it loops right through comical absurdity and back around to tedium. This does not lend itself to a good story which people will spend time and money to willingly experience.

I mean, yeah, this is why some people say that it's impossible to make a truly anti-war piece of fiction. If you showed war as it actually is -- not just miserable and soul-destroying but also actually unspeakably boring 99% of the time -- everybody would tap out in minutes.

Leaning heavily on 'bending is genetic!' is flawed. Bending ability is a spiritual trait tied to specific groups, hence why benders can be born into families of non-benders and why you don't see different-bender siblings until Republic City.

Er, neither. It's just canon that all Air Nomads were born benders. You never see non-benders among the Air Nomads because non-bender Air Nomads have never existed -- every child born to an Air Nomad has always been an Air Nomad, until Bumi and Kya.
Jimothy: Worldbuilder, Youtuber, Stinker@Jimothy48500311

@tragic_endings_ Now that I think about it, we never saw non-benders among the Air Nomads. So, would that be eugenics (which is a lot easier when you cut romance and lust from the equation with sex segregation and monk/nunhood) or benders living separately from the non-benders in the temples?
