Year 4 have been looking closely at Roman artefacts and objects at the Ribchester Roman Museum. We even got to try on some Roman armour!

The Ribchester Helmet is a Roman bronze ceremonial helmet from the late 1st to early 2nd Century AD. Discovered in 1796 as part of the Ribchester Hoard in Lancashire, England, it is now displayed at the British Museum. Originally, the helmet featured a model of a sphinx, which has since been lost. The helmet was not designed for battle protection but rather for showcasing elite horsemanship in events like hippika gymnasia, or cavalry sports. #drthehistories

A replica of the Ribchester Helmet at Ribchester Roman Museum, Lancashire. The original Roman helmet at the British Museum, is dated to the 1st - 2nd century CE, and was found in 1796 as part of the Ribchester Hoard. I filmed this video yesterday at the Museum in Ribchester.

Hargreaves class have had the most amazing time at Ribchester Roman Museum today. Trying on the armour was definitely our favourite part!

As they bring their learning on the Romans to a close, Year 3 visited the Roman Museum at Ribchester. They all had a try and being a centurion, but most didn't like the idea of carrying all the armour around all day!

The start of a short series looking at the early history of #RibchesterRomanMuseum. Thomas May's Excavations on the site of the demolished Sunday School in Ribchester, ahead of construction of Ribchester Museum of Roman Antiquities and Ribchester Parochial Hall in 1914.

A significant Roman object has been found in Wrexham and staff from our @HistArchChester department will be working with @wrexhammuseums to undertake archaeological work on the site of the discovery! 🔎 bit.ly/2YfWuqE
