Air Canada has gone 43 (!) years without a fatal incident. My entire life up to this point has been lived in a country where the flag carrier never got a single person killed in a crash. The record is a totem to what serious people can accomplish. So naturally, Mark Carney is screaming at them to instead focus on nonsense.
Harrison Faulkner@Harry__Faulkner

PM Mark Carney on Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau delivering a video address only in English: "I'm very disappointed, as others are, rightly so, in this unilingual message of the CEO...lack of judgement and a lack of compassion."

6:49am: sudden spike in oil futures trading. no news. no announcement. nothing public. 7:05am: trump announces a pause on iran strikes. markets move. someone knew. 16 minutes early. $580 million in contracts. the corruption is staggering.

Figures like Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon, who has explicitly compared Canada to Ukraine, see Canada as a bastion of decadent liberalism in the West that must be broken and subdued, one way or another. trib.al/v8KiNEB

9 out of 10 times, MacKinnon scores into the semi-open net. Breakaways by McDavid and Celebrini, 2 1-timers from the hashmarks by Celebrini, save on the goal line by McAvoy. Canada played phenomenally. Every once in a while, it’s someone else’s turn. Proud of 🍁.

Japan is another country that does not require identification at any point when flying domestically. What do they know/do that we don’t? Oh yeah, been doing this for the past few days.

@JJ_McCullough @cfroggatt That is probably right as far as what Poilievre can and should do for his own purposes. But the idea that you are pushing that Carney or Canada are to blame for the current mess is partisan nonsense.

Amazingly enough, 46 years later, the U.S. once again defeated the best hockey team a hostile, communistic power could put on the ice!

I’m confused. Surely the difference this time is that the winner was the country whose government grabs stakes in private companies, directs investment to favored industries, imposes taxes on citizens without legislative authority and tries to muzzle domestic opponents?

During the cold war we would always cheer for Czechoslovakia to beat the USSR in Hockey. Today the entire world is cheering for Canada against the US. Imagine how Trump has destroyed the US's brand and standing in the world. Elbows up, Canada!

Interviewer: "When you look at today's numbers, what do they tell us about the effectiveness of Donald Trump's tariffs." Me, very serious economist: "Hahahahahahahahahahaha... hahahahahahahaha... hahahahahahahaha... oh, wow." Sometimes all you can do is laugh at the absurdity.

He could probably be PM until he dies. Maybe a little longer than that. He is so likeable, and I did not see that coming.

@blaa_blah_blah @natnewswatch Yep. It’s Mark Carney’s fault that a number of Conservative MPs are leaving the Conservative caucus. Best to blame others when things go poorly

@natnewswatch Imagine if they spent as much time governing and trying to secure a trade with the US as they do scheming backroom deals to get people to cross the floor.

The Blame Canada crowd is angry with the appointment of Janice Charrette to lead trade negotiations with the US. (When are they not angry?) They claim that she’s unqualified, and a Liberal patronage appointee. Some facts: - Madame Charette actually started her career in Ottawa as a Conservative political staffer; - She served as Deputy Minister in some of the largest and most complex government departments; - She was appointed Clerk of the Privy Council (ie head of the Public Service and top advisor to the Prime Minister and Cabinet) by Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper; - She was then appointed to Canada’s second most important diplomatic head of mission role, as High Commissioner to the Court of St. James, ie representing Canada in the United Kingdom; - She was then re-appointed Clerk at PCO, the first person ever to serve in the highest role in Canadian public service twice, a reflection of the broad confidence in her ability. There is literally no one in Canada with more senior leadership experience in the public service, dealing with the most complex issues, systems, and crises. Some are trying to tie her to the Trudeau government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act. (N.B. I was the only Premier in Canada to challenge the constitutionality of its invocation.) To be clear: the role of the Clerk is not to provide the Prime Minister with their personal advice or opinion, but rather to offer an objective summary of the views of relevant government agencies and departments on a particular issue, and to outline the pros and cons of a course of action. That’s what Madame Charette would have provided to the Prime Minister per his request for advice on the EA. Per the motto of the Public Service: fearless advice, loyal implementation. In our system of responsible government, the Prime Minister and Cabinet are accountable for decisions, such as the EA invocation. Canada will be well served by having someone of Madame Charette’s ability and experience in such an important role.

🇷🇺 Kirill Rogov, a well-known Russian political scientist and journalist, political emigrant (left Russia immediately after the start of large-scale aggression in Ukraine). 🔻 "If hostilities cease, people in Russia will first say "thank you" to the authorities, and then ask - "what was this and why was it necessary?". 🔻 "This circumstance frightens Putin very much. Therefore, he desperately needs some kind of "spoils" from the war to calm society." 🔻 "In this regard, there are big problems, because the results achieved in this war are very doubtful considering the huge losses suffered."

I think @jamiljivani was obviously in the right and it was gratuitous for Pierre to criticize him. Trump’s tariffs are clearly wrong, but hysterical anti-Americanism, egged on by Carney, is a problem in Canada too, and the Conservatives shouldn’t be afraid to stand against it.
