Major reservoirs of the Central Valley Project have generally favorable conditions at the start of the 2025 water year, with 7.43 million acre-feet of water in storage—roughly 120% of the average for the previous 15 years, which has South of Delta CVP contractors asking why allocations this year were so low and slow. The largest reservoir in California and the cornerstone of the CVP, Shasta, has a healthy 2.78 million acre-feet of water, or 113% of the average for the last 15 years, with other major north CVP reservoirs in similar conditions, collectively reporting 121% of 15-year historical average.
