Reform voters are racist apparently. As soon as I saw this insult to millions of British people (one of the least racist nations on earth) I suspected it was from an academic. It’s impossible to exaggerate how western universities became overrun with woke ideology
Alan Lester@aljhlester

Sigh. Yes Matthew Syed, people are disillusioned after decades of economic stagnation and inequality. But no, the fact Reform voters were nice to you does not mean they’re not racist too. You endorsing their scapegoating of immigrants doesn’t help. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

This is more than dreadful, and it illustrates the danger of economists, in politics, where they know the price of everything, and the value of nothing, Generally, economists are ecologically illiterate, and are a danger to society.

Watching Labour MPs take a wrecking ball to nature makes me so angry & so sad. Their action tonight voting down amendments to the #Planning bill intended to protect wildlife & habitats from destruction is so reckless & so counterproductive. People didn’t vote Labour for this 👇

@implausibleblog Just more centrist guff really. There may be serious people in the centre but the real world has passed them by. We need new, radical ideas

@jonsopel @DerbyChrisW Russia and their clubs are banned from most (all?) sport at the moment. There is a case to ban Israel on similar grounds. And certainly grounds to objectively stop Maccabi Tel Aviv from travelling given their previous behaviour

There are a lot of clubs that have horrific, abusive and racist louts among the legitimate fans going to away matches. But how often do ALL the supporters get banned? Would you ban ALL England fans from travelling given what happened at the Euros final at Wembley or the rioting we’ve seen in tournaments abroad?

Interesting that @jonsopel is advocating for proven violent football hooligans. As a journalist he really should be more curious about the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. They are violent thugs and he wants to let them loose on Birmingham. Irresponsible to say the least.
Jon Sopel@jonsopel

The optics of the #AstonVilla ban are truly appalling. How can it be that there is enough policing every weekend to maintain public safety when tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters gather, but there isn’t when it’s maybe a 1000 Maccabi fans on the one night an Israeli club is playing in Britain?

@RichNP @ryanmcquade77 But you don't see that. You would have to just guess. Everyone except Bob gets their hero moment. Yeah!yeah! He is a dad but it would have been so satisfying to see him use that sniper he was carrying around. For this reason I am never rewatching this movie again

From @thetimes today: “The Premier League is changing. Long balls are all the rage, the number of passes per game are at a 15-year low and the percentage of long throw-ins into the penalty area is more than double the number at any point in the past decade.” I don’t think it is changing, or better said, the bigger picture will eventually show that is not changing that much, but happy to discuss. I’d say those figures are circumstantial. Right now, the Premier League teams playing the positional game that is also played by Bayern, Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid, basically all the big clubs in European football, are struggling for one reason or another. Chelsea are dealing with injuries. At Arsenal, Arteta is mixing the essence of positional play with other aspects of the game influenced by NFL and other sports. City are finding themselves again, but opponents are sitting much deeper against them, and Pep is trying to find ways to counterbalance that. Liverpool are facing similar setups and are starting to build new connections up front. Aston Villa didn’t strengthen much and are still rediscovering their rhythm. But once those teams find their flow again, we’ll return to a period dominated by positional play and higher passing numbers.
