#TheatreBirthdays birthday boy @MarkWynter1, 78 today, was in the original London cast of one of my all-time favourite musicals ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, that played (too-briefly) at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1980.

I will NEVER forget his first note. I shook. Whew, 29?! After weeping, I was then plagued by how? How is he doing that? I looked up Mongolian throat singing - an extraordinary art- and wondered if that could explain the openness & richness... such an extraordinary instrument.

Amartüvshin Enkhbatyn. 29 yr old Mongolian Baritone. I heard him for the 1st time in BBC’s Cardiff Singer of the World, 2015. I wept. It’s the most extraordinary baritone I’ve experienced; visceral & utterly confounding. Paired with the romance of Giordano’s music 🔥😭❤️
