Read our CEO's @RichardCPiper response to the US Surgeon General's call to include better health risk warnings on alcohol labelling ⬇️ “The Surgeon General’s call to update labelling of alcoholic drinks in the US to include cancer warnings is a welcome move. Alcohol is directly linked to seven types of cancer and not just at harmful or hazardous levels of consumption. Yet as noted in the Surgeon General’s advisory, many of us don't know this. “This is not a coincidence as we’re purposefully being denied the truth about alcohol. It isn’t labelled in the same way as other food and drink with calories or nutritional information, nor does it come with any warnings about the health risks like those seen on packets of cigarettes or over-the-counter drugs. “That's because alcohol labelling is, both in the US and the UK, largely regulated by the alcohol industry itself and of course, they want to sell as many alcoholic drinks as they can. We need to end this farce of industry ‘regulation’ of its own labels. We’ve seen hugely successful action on the labelling of other health harming products like tobacco in raising awareness of risks associated with smoking and now we need to do the same for alcohol. “Proper labelling that forces the industry to get more honest will help all of us better understand the risks associated with alcohol, so that we know the real impact of our drinks and can make more informed choices. It is one of the key pieces of the puzzle for preventing entirely avoidable alcohol harm and we hope to see the UK Government following suit, particularly if it is to deliver on its pledge to halve deaths from the biggest killers including cancer as part of its 10-Year Health plan.”

Behaviour change campaigns are a really important part of improving public health, however policy, tax and regulatory change is essential too. Dry Jan would be a great moment for the government to start the much-needed conversation about a new alcohol strategy.

I'm 637 days sober today. By the time I run the Hackney half marathon (eeeek), I hope to be 2+ years clean. Getting sober saved my life, and it wouldn't have happened without charities like @AlcoholChangeUK, who I am running for. Please consider donating! justgiving.com/page/run-tams-…

Kicking off the @dryjanuary challenge, football legend @RealRazor sat down with @JayMotty & @Fraserfranks in 'BOSSIN the Booze'. The trio reflect on their experiences with alcohol, how drinking cultures among men might be changing and the relationship between booze and the world of football. With almost one in three (32%) men in the UK set to take a break from alcohol in January, Razor, Motty and Franks look at what might be driving blokes to re-evaluate their relationship with alcohol, and how the Dry January® challenge and the Try Dry® app can help them supercharge their goals and have a healthier, happier 2025 and beyond. Get ready to BOSS the Dry January® challenge and double your chances of having a totally alcohol-free month with the Try Dry® app⬇️ dryjanuary.org.uk. #DryJanuaryChallenge #DryJanuary #BossIt
