Writing a biography of the great Richard Carlson — actor, writer, director, producer, businessman! 🎥 📺 📻 #RichardCarlson #TCMParty she/her: @holyspacemonkey

On this day in 1994, TCM went on the air for the first time! The first film to air that night was GONE WITH THE WIND, followed by SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT, THE PETRIFIED FOREST and CAT PEOPLE. Thank you for your support! We’ll always have the movies!

Well, it’s lo-fi, but I made a clip of this scene from “Presenting Lily Mars” (1943) because it cracks me up so much!! Richard Carlson and Van Heflin are hilarious, and we get a glimpse of lovely Judy Garland! I wish @tcm would show #PresentingLilyMars again! 🙏💕#TCMParty

@kareem_carr @internetarchive One reason I love Richard Carlson, the actor I’m writing a book about: In the 1950s, he became an early & highly influential example of the adventure/romantic hero-scientist, in movies like Creature from the Black Lagoon. That trope helped promote science as cool and interesting!
