@Wisteraverse I've been with Amazon exclusively since 2018 for each of my books. It's taken a lot of work to build up sales but it has worked really well. I think there are plus and minus for whatever direction you take. The key is more books and constant marketing.

@caytlyn_brooke I pay for Amazon ads and it drives sales. I doubt either of us will be million sellers but it is lovely knowing we have readers. 😊

Just crunched all the numbers... In 2025 as an indie author I sold: • 1,435 paperback copies • 151 ebooks • 35 audio books • 76,476 KDP pages read Not only did I break even but I actually made a profit! This is the best year I've ever had! I'm beyond ecstatic!

For my 9th and final book I decided to change from ghost stories to a dark romance. This one starts in Albania and ends in Scotland. It had too. She is the storm and now everything will change. (Rainstorm) Rmpearson.net

@RichardMPearso1 Oh shit I did not expect such a down to earth response 🤣 rare are the writers who consider their book a product and I 100% agree with you.

Do you have to be nice to sell books?

@realmattfalcon My point is, no one gives a fxxx if you are nice or not. It's a product you are selling, that's all the potential buyer is interested in. I buy a lot of books to read but I rarely consider my feelings about the author before my purchase.😉

1- Sometimes, I hear songs spontaneously. And yesterday it was "Hey Jude." Nice way to encourage me, unconscious universe gods. Also, I've been using the Drops app to get a head start on Japanese, and I've just seen an ad here. Those guys, I mean...

@AuthorGoodwin I see it as a hobbie that pays for itself. I've had 5 figure sales but ads and book production costs eat up any money I make.

How much money will I throw at my books before I realise I'm never going to make a profit? Mmm, maybe I'll just convince myself I have a horse - they're money pits too, right? 😂 #writerslife

Indie authors, which format do you sell the most? Bonus question: Do you advertise anywhere?

@kpmaloyauthor @lhallwriter Depending on the genre the cost can be different. Suspense for example costs a lot more than horror. Romance even more. For me it cost $360 for horror. I had to reduce my ebook to 99c for the promo. It meant only earned 35c per ebook so had to sell almost 1000 to break even.

@kpmaloyauthor @lhallwriter It's not easy. Of my 8 books it's no coincidence that the three with the most reviews and sales have been accepted. It is frustrating as only a small percentage of books get through. As Lee says, they are game changers. Expensive but well worth it.
