Today is my last day at Georgetown. After 18 years of teaching, and 12 years as a full-time professor in Germany/the U.S., it’s the end of my university career. I will now try to make it as an independent writer and commentator - which is exciting and terrifying. Stick with me!

Very sad to hear of the death of John Charmley (aged 69). Born in Birkenhead, he was a larger than life character and a brilliant historian. His books on Chamberlain and Churchill were thought-provoking and superbly written. He will be greatly missed.

If the self victimization of the heterodox and bro podcast sphere was an energy source we would have unlimited power.

It’s absolutely pathetic how much of a meltdown any sniff of genuine disagreement causes amongst the ‘heterodox’ podcast world.

The passive voice is telling. I had an absent father - I blame him for that; society didn't 'create' his desire to bail on my mum. But society did make it easier for women to leave abusive men. Male violence is one of the leading causes of absent dads.
Konstantin Kisin@KonstantinKisin

It would be funny if it wasn't tragic that generations of people who created a society of children growing up without fathers are now shocked and horrified that young men and boys are looking for male role models in all the wrong places.

Kyle Clifford has just been found guilty of raping his ex girlfriend before brutally murdering her and her sister with a crossbow, and stabbing her mother to death. Less than 24 hours before his attack he had been listening to an Andrew Tate podcast.

OUT TODAY: are there any better words than “this is a well-written, informative account that identifies a niche in the existing historiography”? Fans of British and Irish history and their various university libraries can now judge for themselves!
