@for59j54 @OakleyCAD @DigiNeanderthal @StewartGH1970 The AVANTI sub title was 'take what we know and make it work'. Avanti was used to demonstrate that what we developed on the Heathrow Express and Terminal 5 project would work for any type or size of project. The measured results of the project were published in BSI/CPI BIP2207.

@OakleyCAD @DigiNeanderthal @StewartGH1970 Agreed. Avanti was demonstrated and its knowledge came from trial and error of working examples that helped us iron our approaches before reaching, or being considered for inclusion into standards. This allowed the way we wrote processes to be reinforceable from examples

@RichardsMervyn @for59j54 @AshleyBIM agree - too much tinkering with what was working before, with no thought of how it would work on day to day basis with 1000s files, with some it appearing to be change for the sake of it, moving us back 10 years, creating confusion & we now have endless different interpretations

@for59j54 @AshleyBIM Totally agree John. Everybody trying to fix something that was not bust. The CDE as a process was tested for over ten years and it worked, that's why it became a BS, BS1192-2007 and updated in 2016. Those goals are more important today. Cut waste, deliver on time, reduce carbon.

@AshleyBIM My observation is that it got progressively worse over the last 10yrs. Working on the front lines nearly 20yrs ago we had clear goals & we focused on the basics. Now, we focus on things that assume the basics are over because someone said it is. This has resulted in these debates

@for59j54 @NigelPDavies It was the same with Lead Supplier, everybody understood that. Similar for subcontractor and supply chain I think.

@NigelPDavies Never run into too many issues here myself. Most large consultants and contractors get it. Its their job to replace with plain language “lead appointed party shall produce…” with “Galliford Try shall produce…” & “appointed party shall…” with “ subcontractor ABC shall …..”

@for59j54 So very true John. The other big problem is OIR, clients do not seem to understand why they need new buildings or refurbishment. perhaps we need to get back to the 'BRIEF' or 'ER' clients/employers requirements.

Its amazing how quickly someone can condense 11 pages of #BIMPrattle related to O&M structure down to two verbal sentences, starting with “Simply put, it just means WE want …”. Information requirements #EIRs have largely still not improved since PAS1192 #BIMWaste

@bondbryanBIM @KevinJFielding I think a similar statement was made in 1994/5 when AutoCAD/Autodesk proposed the schema that became IFC when it floated the International Alliance for Interoperability, which became BuildingSmart. Then came Revit.

I'm now going to refer to Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, and Rhino as the "RARE stack".

@for59j54 I find rubber gloves and soap solves the later, it may work on the first but no evidence this is true.

Whilst your trying to justify the existance of a design lead who wont lead coordination at the same time your dealing with a coastal oil spill that seems to have polluted your brew 🛢🛢🛢

@a_shilliday @thebimguru @Studio_Bim Red Lining drawings is better than no check at all. The only thing is if you generate drawings from models and then check if there is an error on one drawing all should be rejected. A check Review and Approve is required when sharing any data, either digital or analogue.

@thebimguru @Studio_Bim I would actually still like folk to do this, given how little actually comes directly from the model nor matches the model - either digital red pen or otherwise. Some basic QA on output is essential irrespective of the format...

Starting to think that if you want to know how proficient and company is with BIM delivery just ask them how they manage and quality check their model data...

@StewartGH1970 @RowlyPaul @RichardsMervyn think you are both vehemently agreeing. The clients/contract sets the rules for commercial, if the fee structure is based on hrs worked, its hard to incentivise better productivity. If I've invested to half time to produce the work, we should be rewarded for it, eg bigger margins
