If the city commission denied new developments and housing projects because some folks having a special interest in or living close by the proposed project objected, we would NEVER approve ANY new housing or business projects, and our town would dry up and blow away.

For years I thought Jimi Hendrix might have been gay because I heard the line in 'Purple Haze' as, "...'scuse me while I kiss this guy."

@MayorKrauss Individual citizens have to exercise their personal responsibility to be informed about local issues. Takes effort. Transparent city government is only one side of the equation, but you are right - it's a challenge.

@RickTryon How is all that made available to the public prior to a commission meeting? So everyone is using the same information? That is one the biggest challenges to public confidence. (I didn't solve it)

A city commission public hearing isn’t the first- or only-time commissioners hear facts and input about a particular issue. There's a lot of due diligence & research undertaken, including hearing from constituents and city staff, for weeks leading up to the actual public hearing.

Growth and change isn’t always convenient or comfortable for everyone at all times. The time to make objections and arguments about a city issue is BEFORE the issue is decided. Complaining, criticizing, and name-calling online AFTER the fact is counterproductive.

@JSAmbarian @NWEinfo @MT_PSC The PSC has become a landing spot for anyone, regardless of expertise in energy/utilities, who can win a popularity contest in a contrived "district". It's little more than a place at the trough for politicos to pad state retirements while PSC staff does the all the work.

FYI, I don’t care about the “next election”. During my tenure as a Great Falls city commissioner, I have never and will never make a decision, propose an initiative, or cast a vote based on a political calculation about the “next election”.

@RickTryon One thing for certain, the PSC needs to be an elected official.

Questions I'll be asking every local candidate for MT legislature: Do you think we need property tax reform, what kind, how, and why? Should PSC be elected, hired, appointed, or be reformed to ensure stricter work/ethics requirements and reduced pay/benefits?

#TBT It’s almost time for the fair! Though the Great Depression spelled the end for the state fair in Helena, it was only the beginning for the Montana State Fair in GF. Cascade County purchased the site for the fairgrounds in 1926, & 5 years of careful planning & development...

@MrSmerker The development is on fee simple property, not trust land, and will add to the local tax base.

Last night the GF city commission voted 4-1 in favor of annexing 18+ acres into the City and assigning a Planned Unit Development zoning designation to the Little Shell development. I voted in favor of the resolutions. Another 115 units of housing in the hopper. Win-Win.
