Another (possibly irrational) rant post: Firstly, I am directing none of this to the artist or the rigging-person. Congrats to them for snatching a big commission genuinely. That being said, after learning about the core plot of the Law and Order SVU Vtuber Episode...I have to say that the show itself has made me unreasonably irate and angered. Perhaps it is just me being a whiner, or getting upset over nothing. Maybe I am reading too much into this even, but I still want to get this off my chest the more I find out about this whole Vtuber episode. There are many, MANY reasons for people to be Vtubers - it can be motivated by something as simple as "I want to have some fun!", "my family/friends said just go try it, so I did." or even "I am a weeb and I want to give it a go!" The Producers and the Writers of the SVU episode could have given ANY legitimate irl incidents to base their Vtuber episode, such as Vtuber agency woes, stalking, or even Vtuber antis taking things too far. It would have had as much impact as whatever these people made up. Instead what do they do? Make the most unhinged and even stereotypical depiction of Vtubers, and almost insinuating that Vtubers decided to become such due to these absolutely vile incidents or from some kind of mental/personality issue. The producer, the writer and the director know absolutely nothing about Vtubing - and the fact that many (me included) decided to give it a go because we simply WANTED to. Also add to the fact that there are many more Vtubers in Asia and the Western perception of Vtubing is far from even a large minority, even if some can be quite vocal. Most Vtubers don't have some "Deep dark" origin or some kind of issue that forces them to be one. I speak for myself, but I find the perpetuation of this stereotype to be extremely offputting. This is just my opinion. From what I have learned about this Vtuber Episode, I feel nothing but just a strong sense of disgust. Again, I direct ONLY to the producer/writer/director of the SVU episode, and not the artist who made the Vtuber model. Ok, I got that out of my chest. Idc if you agree with me or not, or bothered to read this or not.
