Obviously never worked at a restaurant before. There was likely more than one server working that table. Even if only behind the scenes. That server also has to tip out all the "front of house" people who helped with that table as well. Hostess, bartender, and any bussers or other waiters who helped. Can't say I agree with tipping as a whole but in the US it's how they get paid.
