Under IFAB Law 9, the ball is only out if the entire ball crosses the line. In Aston Villa v Brentford, VAR ruled out a goal with no clear angle showing this. VAR requires clear and obvious evidence, not guesswork, so the on-field goal should have stood. #avfc

@TotalVilla_ Not the point is it. Goal was in 2nd phase anyway, therefore should stand. However there is no concrete evidence this ball is out. Even with this view, you can’t 100% say it’s out which is our exact point. If you can’t say 100%, then you have to go with the infield decision.

I’ve seen a lot of takes on this but for me, the ball is out and it’s a throw-in.
Regarding how far they went back, the ball was in the Brentford net less than 20 seconds after this.
If this was the other way around, we’d all be screaming for VAR to go back and look 🤷♂️ #avfc

@Ian_G_Howarth @Rovers As a neutral in this, have to say Bellamy would be a perfect fit. I'm guessing an agreement to join post-World Cup, with a sensible longish-term caretaker, would give fans something good to look forward to, regardless of division.

📰 Valérien Ismaël has today left his position as Blackburn Rovers’ Head Coach by mutual consent.
Ismaël joined the club in February 2025, however it has been mutually agreed that he will step away from his role with immediate effect, along with Assistant Head Coach Dean Whitehead.
Blackburn Rovers would like to thank Valérien and Dean for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them both the very best for the future.
The club will now begin the process of appointing a new Head Coach and will make no further comment until an appointment is confirmed.

It’s not a conspiracy theory to say SEND private schools shouldn’t be included as parents don’t pay fees or VAT. These schools are unaffected.

June 2024: @Keir_Starmer said “there’s no evidence that [private schools] will close” in relation to VAT on school fees.
November 2024: @TorstenBell said an additional 100 private schools would close over 3 years.
One year later, over 100 have closed.

@RickyBee @oldishbird1 @Keir_Starmer @TorstenBell For school closures? Mainstream private schools not including SEND private schools which are funded by the taxpayer via EHCPs. Why would you include them when whether they open or close is nothing to do with parents? The LA pays the fees and then reclaims the VAT.

Hi, @TimHarford and @tomcolls , there were a few #SchoolFeeVAT stats you missed that @BBCMoreorLess listeners should know about school closures and #SchoolFeeVAT. (@PEPForum, you may also find this of interest). 1) The @ElizabethIvens article from @MailOnline (Mail on Sunday) that you cited was for *mainstream* independent schools and not special schools which are largely funded by local authorities and still VAT exempt. Definitions matter, and it affects your data, such as new schools opening. No, VAT has *NOT* been good for schools or children. 2) The number of students forced out of closed schools was *significantly* higher in 2025 compared to previous years since 2021. School closures displaced 5,307 students in 2025; of these, 1,216 were SEND children. Let's look at these increases using Poisson regression. This will tell us whether the 2025 number (the first since VAT was implemented) is *significantly* higher than previous years. It is. If there was no difference (null hypothesis), the probability of seeing what we saw is practically zero (p<10^-140 for all students, and p<10^-11 for SEN). 3) Those numbers DO NOT INCLUDE the number of children priced out of their schools because of this tax on education. Many more children were forced to leave the world they knew, even though the schools survived (so far). 4) LET US NEVER FORGET THAT THESE ARE CHILDREN. You cited a bet between @maxwell_marlow and @SamFriedmanSoc about how many children would be forced out of their schools, These aren't widgets or stock prices. The Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a much loved former player, Robert Hopkins. The former winger played 207 times for Blues and became a cult hero amongst fans thanks to his no nonsense mentality and passion for the game. One of our own, who not only played for the Club, but supported home and away once his playing days had finished. Everyone at the Club sends their thoughts and condolences to “Hoppo’s” friends and family.
