Several Kenyan acts are touring and getting invitations to perform on global stages, yet there seems to be relatively little buzz about it. Is this because these artists are considered more niche, or we lack enough platforms that share these achievements with ordinary mwananchi?

@Fena_menal @MusicCharts254 This market is tough for Kenyan urban music artists.The mainstream still calls the shots in hyping Hits instead of building a budding musical community at home.

The day you stop chasing YT / IG etc numbers and go back to the CRAFT, omg... it sucks but it's so liberating. 'They' want us to kill ourselves for "numbers" and algos, but the core fan base? That's a special bunch. Cater to those. Now to balance mainstream vs core base. 🚀

@MusicCharts254 They should indicate as Sub Saharan.There is this perception that North Africa is an entirely different market and if bundled together with the rest will wallop them with huge numbers combined from the larger Arab World including Middle East.

Aya Nakamura - Mali Gims - DRC Mohamed Ramadan - Egypt Saad Lamjarred - Egypt Soolking - Algeria Mohammed Ramadan - Egypt All have songs with more views than some of the songs here. But I guess these countries are not in Africa.

@ArtbeatKenya There is an untapped potential of Kenyan music done in 2000s to blow up through covers and refixes.Remember when Amos and Josh did a rock cover for Deadly by Nameless at TPF6..it went viral after that.

@MusicCharts254 One thing I love from Bongo artists is their pen game..no lazy lines or overrepetitions that is synonymous with some so called Kenyan stars.Mtu anaandika line tatu pekee then repeats a word x 100 and think it can compete with what TZ acts do in the Swahili market.Uvivu tunao mob.

Diamond Platnumz has really mastered the game, he knows there are some songs that will appeal to the East African market, some to the African market and some for the global market. This Yatapita song will definitely appeal to the East African market because we love melodies.

@MusicCharts254 Kiss TV back then was influential in pushing Kenyan music..they had a 6-9 am play ke from Mon-Fri.Tues Live on Blast 5-7 pm was Kenyan mix.A lot of artists got their 1st premiere TV airplay through them.Then they scattered all this Play Ke and people lost interest with them.

Wish Kiss TV was half as good as Soundcity TV. Visually and sonically. 😢

@savarafrica Event ni Sol Fest but you guys forgot about your fans who came for your performance.Too many artists maybe unlike Shin City which Nyashinski did a solo run.Also DJs are the weak link if Kenyan music is only rotated at 20% in the heart of Nairobi City.Make it 50-60% on the low.

@MusicCharts254 They have a line of Corporate and Institutional Clients so their artists are guaranteed bookings because of their catalog.There is big money out there in Kenya that needs to be invested directly to Kenyan artists.

@MusicCharts254 That Decade long Play Ke conversation is gaining fruits.Artists are making comebacks as they no longer depend on gatekeepers to monetize their music.Then Tik Tok created a huge marketing avenue both free and paid for music to go viral rather than wait for Youtube slow growth.

Kenyan music is on the brink of a major breakthrough. One amazing thing about it is that the breakthrough will be multi dimensional, across different & independent sounds and genres.
