(2/3) The findings confirm what survivors have been telling us for years: “parental alienation” deployed against mothers who disclose abuse, a pro-contact culture sustaining contact with parents who harm, outcomes resting on Cafcass and expert assessments, and serious delays leaving families in limbo.

(5/6) Victims’ lives and voices must be at the centre of the justice system. We urge that the wider issues raised by this case — the treatment of rape survivors, judicial bias and “himpathy” — are not subsumed within concerns about judicial security and independence.

(1/6) Our Letter to the Lady Chief Justice ⚖️ We’ve published an open letter to the Lady Chief Justice in response to her judgment concerning the “administration of justice” in the Fordingbridge rape case — where three boys convicted of 17 sexual offences against two girls were originally given non-custodial sentences.

(6/6) The evidence exists. The recommendations exist. We need more action to secure true and lasting changes for child and adult victims in family court.

(5/6) And we hope Parliament investigates the national scandal of children being removed from their mothers in private proceedings on the basis of pseudoscience — unregulated experts and “parental alienation” claims that have no place in decisions about children’s lives.

(3/4) Together with Family Survivor Network , we’re building the evidence base the government has refused to collect.

(1/4) The state has apologised for the forced adoptions of 1949–1976. But our Child Removal Survey found 217 mothers who had 342 children removed in private law proceedings since 2014.
