Charity Appeal: The Glasgow Childrens’ Holiday Scheme… Friends, please take two minutes to read this if you can, help create a summer holiday for a Glasgow kid…🙏 I am proud to be a trustee of the Glasgow Children’s Holiday Scheme, a charity aiming to provide seaside holidays for children at Wemyss Bay on Scotland’s west coast. It had astonished me that some children in Glasgow aged 10 or 12 had still not witnessed or visited a seaside in their lives. The GCHS aims to rectify this. We own and run 5 caravans at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park but we need constant fresh financial support. Could you help? Could you make a donation? Could your business sponsor one of our caravans? Here is more info: •For close to 70 years Glasgow Children’s Holiday Scheme has been providing disadvantaged children and families from across greater Glasgow the chance of a holiday they otherwise would not get. •We ensure over 200 families and around 500 children and young people get a break each year primarily through our 5 holiday caravans at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park. •Children and young people who may never or rarely have had a holiday, some who have never had the chance to get out the city or go to the seaside.   In 2024, we were able to: •Provide 240 families, 445 children and young people and 399 adults to get a break. All are impacted by poverty and disadvantage. This included 92 people with mental health issues, 26 adults with a disability, 31 families impacted by domestic violence as well as 8 asylum seeker families and 107 single parent/carer families. It also includes over 100 children with a disability. •Enabled over 40 families to get a day out •Supported 5 youth organisations to have activity breaks for around 42 young people; •Ensured 20 group days out for over 350 young people •Coordinated a weekend retreat for women and children impacted by domestic violence; and •Supported 90 families and 245 young people through our Christmas Gift Scheme 2023. Each of our caravans cost up to £10,000 a year to run. Would you be interested in helping us meet those costs? All donations are welcome - £10 can provide toys and games for the caravans, £100 can ensure a family get the chance of a break and for between £5,000 and £10,000 you can become a caravan sponsor.
