On 11 March, @Centre4RespBiz in collaboration with the @UNEP, @IKEAFoundation, @Cloverorganic, and Uttarakhand Organic Commodity Board (@uocb_uk) co-hosted a state-level stakeholder consultation in Dehradun on 'Promoting Transformation through a Capitals Approach in the Agri-Food Value Chain'. The consultation emphasized the opportunity in Uttarakhand to integrate traditional agricultural wisdom with modern innovations for building sustainable agriculture value chains in the State, thereby creating positive impacts on people and nature. Some of the key takeaways from the discussions, which focused broadly on - #organic agriculture and #agro-forestry sectors were: ✅ Leveraging Uttarakhand’s strengths in traditional farming ✅ Developing value chains for promising crops in the State (e.g., traditional crops, medicinal crops, spices, millets) ✅ Implementing low/no cost interventions to enhance productivity at the farm level ✅ Exploring opportunities in medicinal and nutraceutical commodities ✅ Skill development of rural youth on agri-entrepreneurship ✅ Strengthening market linkages ✅ Application of appropriate technology Participants from public agencies, businesses, agri-enterprises, NGOs, farmers' organizations, and experts took part in this event, marking the project's launch in Uttarakhand. These organizations will collaborate with selected agri-entrepreneurs to enhance their understanding of applying capitals thinking in business decision-making, with a focus on organic agriculture and agroforestry. During the inaugural of roundtable discussion on "Advancing Sustainability through EU-India Business Stakeholder Collaboration" in Bangalore, experts @eske_bo, Ramesh Chandara Lahoti, @profvasanthi Srinivasan, Laurent le Danois , @RijitSengupta, shared their valuable insights. @profvasanthi emphasized, "Industry associations played a key role in transforming the sustainability discourse. We often mention the role of business, government, and civil society, but I don't think we have acknowledged the role of industry associations in making this transformation. "Ramesh Chandara Lahoti noted, "The awareness among consumers has increased. They have started being interested in the environmental records of producers and those they buy from." Laurent le Danois added, "We need to have meaningful discussions for today and tomorrow. As we continue these discourses, we will not be able to solve all the problems for sure, but the more we try to find solutions to existing problems, the better."
