@jpodhoretz Nah, it's just a matter of the Barney Stinson "Ewok Line" theory. If you were > 10 when you first saw it then you hated the Ewoks, and if you were < 10 you loved the Ewoks.
As time has gone on a lot more have been introduced to the trilogy as children, thus more people love it.

If you don't recognize that Return of the Jedi is a dreadful movie, you're either delusional or stupid. I remember seeing it on opening night and hardly being able to believe how bad it was.

I find the revisionism of Return of the Jedi really frustrating. I remember when my friends and I went to a 30th anniversary 35mm screening of it in Hollywood. There was this intro video where people were talking about how much they loved the Ewoks. Before JarJar and the Prequels, Star Wars fans HATED the Ewoks. Not just because they defeated the Empire, but because they were a representation of how George turned the movie into a toy commercial. The word “Ewok” is never spoken in the movie. People know what they’re called because the toys were marketed so heavily.

Some hashtag personal news! After 8.5 years at @RSI, I'm doing something new next week! Very grateful for an org that let me grow and manage our digital media, create 100 automations for internal use, become a scholar, and learn other kinds of work as well. Few places would have allowed me to do policy work without a higher degree, let alone in addition to my digital media work. It's in good hands with many colleagues I'm going to miss working with!
