I had a great meeting with Andrew Lockie, CEO of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, where we discussed the many ways the YMCA supports individuals and families across our region. From childcare and youth programs to employment services, newcomer support, and health and wellness initiatives, the YMCA plays an important role in helping people access the programs and opportunities they need to succeed. Today I had the opportunity to join volunteers delivering meals as part of the Meals on Wheels program in West Elgin during the March for Meals campaign. For many seniors and residents with disabilities, each Meals on Wheels delivery provides a nutritious meal, a friendly visit, and an important check-in that helps people stay safe, connected, and independent at home. This program plays a vital role in supporting community care and reducing isolation. My sincere thanks to Michelle Johnson from the West Elgin Community Health Centre for the invitation, and to the dedicated volunteers who welcomed us along on their route today. Before Bill 17, the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act, municipal planning departments could require peer reviews or modifications to reports submitted by professional engineers as part of a complete building application. Bill 17 changed that by ensuring that the professional judgement of licensed engineers is respected. If you hadn’t heard, regulations came into effect early this year! #Housing

I enjoyed touring the expanded London Justice Centre at Joan’s Place to see firsthand the important work they’re doing for young adults in our community. The Centre helps people aged 18–24 who are involved in the justice system by connecting them with legal assistance, court services, and personalized support plans that address the root causes of their involvement. Thanks to partnerships with Legal Aid Ontario, a host of community agencies, and the Ontario Court of Justice, young adults can access legal advice, appear in court, and receive coordinated support all in one place. What makes this Centre so effective is how it combines justice services with supports like mental health care, addiction programs, housing, education, and employment assistance. This approach helps young people get back on track and build more stable futures. With ongoing support from the provincial and federal governments, the London Justice Centre helps break cycles of reoffending, making our community safer and stronger. I recently met with President & CEO Karen Davies and her outstanding team at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. We toured the Emergency Department and an Acute Medicine unit and had an engaging conversation about the hospital’s needs and priorities as they continue providing outstanding care for patients across our region. I also had the pleasure to meet one of STEGH’s longtime volunteers, Doug McGill, and learn more about the incredible role volunteers play at STEGH. Their time, dedication, and compassion make a real difference for patients, families, and staff every day. STEGH is consistently recognized as one of the top hospitals in the province, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have this level of care right here in our community. It was a pleasure to attend the 86th London Farm Show at the Western Fairgrounds alongside my colleague, Minister of Agriculture Trevor Jones, and MPP of Oxford, Ernie Hardeman. The Farm Show is always a great opportunity to connect with local farmers, producers, and agri-business leaders and to see firsthand the innovation and hard work that continues to drive Ontario’s agriculture sector forward. We also had the chance to tour The Grove at Western Fair District and learn more about how this exciting project supports and facilitates local agri-business entrepreneurs as they develop their ideas and bring new products to market.
