This is probably one of the biggest challenges in coaching right now… There are so many amazing coaches out there that would like to change for the better and develop themselves, but this expectation of what coaching 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 look like can create a sense of fear especially in young coaches. We need to create a safe space for coaches to explore in the same way that we want players to. If we want to get rid of the 𝘆𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 and the 𝗷𝗼𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 coach, we have to change this perception that goes back generations. If we want to players to have a better experience, we have to allow change in coaching to happen without pressure and without fear. In a world where families are viewed as consumers, we have to continue to put the development of players, and therefore coaches first.

"£20 an hour...for 10 years." What do YOU think of this? A Premier League Academy coach told me that he had been paid the same hourly rate for the last 10 years. Let's do the maths on how much his total session rate is really worth on £20 an hour. Three things to take into account first: 1. The total session rate is £60 (3 hours x £20 per hour). 2. The "true" session time is 5 hours considering session planning, set-up, pack-up and other activities. 3. Many coaches have to leave their full-time job earlier (potentially losing money) to make it on time. So. For £60 over 5 hours of work: • £20 hourly rate after inflation (approximately 3%) and tax is about £7.14. • The total real value of the session rate is just £35.72 (5 x £7.14). ↓ Coaches play a BIG part in shaping the future of football, but who's shaping the future for them? Coaching is a career → not just a calling.

Contemporary coaching is being comfortable with chaos: -Limit lines  -Maximize time on the ball -Expect mistakes  Impress the kids, not the parents
