@JeffBarnes52 What does equality look like this way? I totally agree with you by the way! Just curious what you’ve experienced in this? When one or two sports drive the revenue that pays for all of the other sports, what does that look like? Is it equal money? Equal attention? Ratio based?

As an AD, no matter how hard you work to create equality across all sports, there will always be someone who believes you care more about another sport than theirs. The reality is that supporting every program matters, even when the perception does not always match the work being done.

@mcmahen_travis @rtolle87 Well yes.. NCAA is governed by the member institutions. I think you completely missed my point. My point isn’t about NCAA governance structure. It was about culture. College football loosens standards and openly ignores basic rules. HS and MS kids see that and it trickles down.

@RobGibsonHC @rtolle87 You might want to look at the Conference commissioners, the ADs, and the Presidents. The NCAA does all their bidding and cannot take action with them. If not, every University in America would be bankrupt. Check the facts.

The NCAA doesn’t play by the same rules, nor does the NCAA even care about rules. They allow players to do literally whatever they want. HS kids and parents see that. Then it trickles down to middle school. In HS, something as dumb as knee pads is literally caused by the NCAA.
Pete Thamel@PeteThamel

"then the NCAA’s ability to ensure fair athletic competition in which all participants play by the same rules will depend upon the whims of trial courts throughout the country."

If your school thinks of Arts or Athletics as “extras”, you’re doing education wrong. Whether it’s teams, bands, or stages, you learn leadership, discipline, & belonging - which aren’t things all classrooms can teach. For some kids, it’s why they even show up. Avon does it right!

@candid_coach I don’t disagree! But we aren’t here to undo parenting. We’re here model standards and consistency. That still changes lives! If we don’t believe that coaching can impact what parenting didn’t provide, we’d be limiting our own influence.

@RobGibsonHC Likely depends how a kid is parented. Coaches can’t undue parenting.

Unpopular Opinion HS kids STILL want to be coached hard and want to be part of structure. “Kids have changed” is often (not always) an “out” used by coaches. Kids don’t reject discipline. They reject inconsistency and hypocrisy. Clarity Standards Consistency

Mistakes aren’t shameful. Refusing to correct them is. So is blaming them on someone else. Bill Walsh understood that. Most good coaches do. Programming & preparation gaps make you human. Own it. Blame preserves ego. Ownership improves standards. This feels pretty Walsh-like.🔨

A little recap from a few @SHREDmillSpeed facility visits in the great state of Indiana! Video 1: a stroll through quite possibly the most impressive high school weight room+speed/strength program I have ever seen…might as well call it the “Taj Mahal” of high school weight rooms😂 Avon HS, just outside of Indianapolis! @bringthehammer @RobGibsonHC Video 2: private facility owner Coach Brian @HoosierELITE one of the most unique & impressive private facility businesses I’ve seen…pumping out some extremely elite athlete’s in the SE Indiana area out of his home! This is the amazing thing about the shredmill coaching community…you can train countless numbers of athletes, and have an incredible impact on their lives, from a wide variety of settings…from a large school setting, to your very own garage+basement! ⚡️💪👊 @Tony_Villani_

The largest advantages you can give athletic departments is a S&C program that is aligned with all teams. Not each team “doing their own thing”. It’s literally connecting athletes from sport to sport so they make continuous progress year round. Such a low hanging fruit🙌🏻
