Not surprised. For a lot of these states, the dream of winning a state title is over before it begins.
Private schools play by an entirely different set of rules when it comes to enrollment.
There are plenty of states where this doesn't matter, like FL, UT, AZ, and others with open enrollment, but in states like NY, PA, and NJ, private schools will always have a significant advantage in terms of who they can recruit to their teams.
Out of those three, only New Jersey does it right by separating public and non-public.

High school players and parents… here’s the reality of recruiting.
College coaches evaluate size first. Height, weight, and frame matter at every level of college football.
Start by being honest and set realistic expectations about where you fit.
If you meet the size standards, you still have to produce.
Big players are everywhere. Coaches recruit the ones who can run, think, compete, and make plays on film.
If you don’t meet the size standards, you must bring something extra.
Elite speed. High football IQ. Toughness. Playmaking ability.
Know where you stand.
Set realistic expectations.
Then go to work.

Facts coach! Your right on. Parents need to get educated on the work needed. I can only speak for our experience. My son competed all for years in wrestling. Football. Baseball. Time went by quick while competing.
Trying to figure out where the growth is. I'll speak for our public school.
I think there needs to be a larger effort in education from the public school Athletic departments. Parents absolutely don't know what it takes to get recruited. They are not educated at all. We definitely caught on late. Very grateful though for the next chapter.

This is the majority of parents belief and actions in today’s recruiting process: 🏈 Freshmen Year: Little Johnny is only a freshmen and has time to grow and develop before we learn the recruiting process. I don’t need recruiting education . 🏈Sophomore Year: Little Johnny getting interest camp fliers and recruiting mail from bigger D1 program schools so he will easily get recruited. I don’t need recruiting education because my little Johnny is going D1 🏈Junior year: Little Johnny started every varsity game junior year and still has no college offers. He still has his senior year to get the attention of college coaches at the D1 level. 🏈Senior year: parent calling everyone saying Johnny is Under the radar and pays multiple street agents unverified recruiting services for crazy priced packages. Result: little johnny decides a post grad school is best option after spending cash for recruiting packages he never needed. Every year I see this same example happening!!! Parents you don’t need recruiting services. You need to be educated early in today’s recruiting process and set an action plan for your little Johnny recruitment process as a Freshmen and beyond.

If I was a high school football coach wrestling would be mandatory for all big guys on the team as track would be mandatory for all athletes on team.
