Yet another Aston Martin leadership change. Seems that Newey is out as TP and the Cheatley is coming in from Audi. It's getting beyond farcical, tbh. #F1 motorsport.com/f1/news/adrian…

@michaelteji Yeah, but nothing is confirmed. Santi is doing a solid job in the interim and is already a huge upgrade on Adami

@RobLMyers Santi left race team to spend time more factory based so I am not sure even if lewis wants him to stay, he will. Cedric is his future race enginger (from what I gather)

Having an influence on the team and the car is a massive help, as is moving away from the GE tanks. The killer line for me was "obviously new engineer, and that’s obviously been a real good boost as well". Yeah, I'm sure it has! #F1 autosport.com/f1/news/why-ha…

@TheOneTrueGKS I guess that's my problem with it. At the start of a reg cycle, there's far more scope for big steps forward, particularly given the PU reg tweaks and the potential for team behind to upgrade the PU.

@RobLMyers I think the points about the current gap and the difficulty of closing it are sound. I hope Ferrari has the roadmap to get it done for Sir Lewis. (The highlight of Charles' year needs to be getting hitched.)

@f1_bunnny You're still talking about the hypothetical future. Can things be improved? Absolutely. Is what we have now better than DRS trains and GE tanks? 100%.

@RobLMyers changes that people are asking for will fix drivers pushing in qualifying again and less battery starvation in the races. And high speed being high speed. It will not change the pecking order anyways or the field spread. You still won’t have your drs trains

This is a good read. It give lie to the criticism of cars just boosting past others. Yes, there are issues with the new PUs. But the cars overall, and the racing spectacle, are a vast improvement on the GE tanks and DRS trains, imho. #F1 motorsportmagazine.com/articles/singl…

@eekamouse1025 I do agree on the PUs. They need to get rid of the silly 50:50 split and reduce the hybrid element. If they can work out a better balance between the ICE and the hybrid, with the aero and chassis platform that we have, it could be really good.

@RobLMyers Yeah - again agree in principle but it’s still irksome that the software can “drive” a faster lap than if the driver gets involved This footprint, weight and aero package without the power starved PUs would have been ideal

@RobLMyers The Mercs were way too strong compared to the Ferraris. If it was George and Kimi together we would have seen the exact same thing. Field spread is the only reason we don’t have trains. Sainz already said he got caught in a train that race. When the gaps close we’ll see the same.

@RobLMyers Hard to 'understand racing' when the drivers spend half the lap coasting to the apex like they’re looking for a parking spot at the grocery store. Harvesting belongs on a farm, not at the entry of Copse

@f1_bunnny OK, take the Antonelli getting back into the lead, then. And it is F1. It might be an F1 that you don't like. It might be different to the F1 we had before. But it is F1. And it's an F1 I'd rather have than the DRS trains and GE tanks from the previous generation.

@RobLMyers Because Leclerc’s tyres died. Same thing in Australia in the first with George. Yo-yoing and swapping positions every other lap till one driver uses their tyres more is not f1. That’s fake entertainment

@eekamouse1025 But it was always the case that cars would be slower fighting other cars than they would be in free air by themselves. I'd prefer that it was far less software driven, but it's been an engineering formula for quite some time.

@RobLMyers Maybe - but George caught the chase 10-15 laps sooner than otherwise That’s my issue - cars are faster without driver inputs and the lower corner speeds for harvesting at high speed corners levels the drive skill differential It’s an engineering formula now

@f1_bunnny They can. What happened with Hamilton and Leclerc by the finish? Were they still fighting? They weren’t. Lewis managed to get clear and pull the gap.

@RobLMyers They cant. That’s max’s complaint. It’s not tactics if there is only one logical play. save the battery to come back when the other guy drained theirs doing an overtake. It’s why the Ferraris went back to back till one of their tyres died. Should be on pace not battery nonesense

@eekamouse1025 Yeah, but the Mercedes would also be even faster without having to fight the Ferraris. The evidence for that is clear once the Mercs managed to get out of overtake range.

@RobLMyers The Ferraris would have been faster with the PU optimisation software in full auto mode - could have maybe got P2 and 3 Any driver involvement in deployment or harvesting off the optimal path loses time

@eekamouse1025 No, they wouldn't. The Mercedes would just escape more quickly. The format is giving the Ferrari drivers a chance to fight it out for at least a few laps.

@RobLMyers He’s a simple question - are the cars faster when the PU software if left to its own devices without any driver input or when the driver chooses when do deploy the power? Ferrari would have been better telling their drivers to chase Kimi in auto mode That’s the issue

@RobLMyers Even the yo-yoing of the Ferraris was still consequence of the flaws in the regs. Overtake and then has to save battery the next lap allowing the other to come back at them. should be able to push to drop the car behind after completing an overtake
