Many of us lost a dear friend with the passing of Lindsey Graham. South Carolina, America, and our allies around the world lost the U.S. Senate’s most passionate and effective advocate for freedom. Condolences to his family, his many friends on both sides of the aisle, and all who mourn his passing, and may his extraordinary legacy be an inspiration to all.

Great to be there today to celebrate the @BSBCorridor project finally breaking ground, which will greatly improve the movement of people and freight in the I-75/I-71 corridor across the Ohio River. For over 30 years, many of us on both sides of the River have worked to find a solution to this unsafe bottleneck, and I was proud to lead negotiations on the legislation that delivered the Federal funds needed for this project. Congratulations to @GovMikeDewine, @GovAndyBeshear, @SenMcConnell, @ODOT_Statewide, @KYTC, and @USDOTFHWA on this first step in constructing new and improved bridges across the Ohio River that will work better for everyone.

Dick Cheney was a patriot who served his country with integrity, competence, and deep devotion during some of the most consequential times in modern American history. His résumé speaks for itself – White House Chief of Staff, Secretary of Defense, a member of leadership in Congress representing Wyoming, and Vice President of the United States. Even more impressive is that in each of these public service roles he made a significant impact, particularly in protecting America’s national security interests. I was honored to assist him in his debate preparation as a vice presidential candidate, and to serve with him in the George W. Bush White House. I learned a lot about leadership from his quiet yet determined example. I join so many Americans in mourning his passing and in expressing condolences to Lynne, Liz, and Mary and other members of the Cheney family.

Senator Mitch McConnell will go down in history as one of America's most consequential legislative leaders. Not only does he hold the record as the the Senate's longest serving majority leader, during his tenure he proved time and again his ability to navigate the complexities of Congress, delivering results where others could not. His strategic acumen, deep understanding of Senate procedure, and unyielding focus on his goals have allowed him to shape the judiciary, tax policy, and other critical legislation in ways that will endure for generations. I congratulate my friend @JonHusted on his appointment to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate. His background and experience will enable him to hit the ground running representing the people of Ohio. As a father, husband and the proud son of adoptive parents in NW Ohio, Jon understands the challenges Ohio families face and will work with his Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle and with the new Trump administration to improve the lives of all Ohioans.

Dave Hobson was a model public servant who fought tirelessly for his constituents and his district. The mark of an effective legislator is someone who not only passes legislation, but follows up on it and ensures that it is working for the people. Even after his time in Congress, Dave would contact me about projects he had begun to be sure they were on track. He loved to be in the thick of things and help unlock a problem or bring people together. He was also a great friend and counselor and never hesitated to provide unvarnished advice to me, sometimes unsolicited, but always helpful. Because of his willingness to share his wisdom, he earned the nickname “Uncle Dave.” I will miss Uncle Dave’s counsel and friendship, his humor and his commitment to making a difference wherever he was. Jane and I send our condolences to his partner in all things, Carolyn, and his family.

Our prayers go out to former President Trump and his family as well as the rally attendees who were shot this evening. We were reminded of the bravery of the men and women of President Trump’s Secret Service detail and other law enforcement. This tragic shooting at a political rally should be a wake up call to all of us to turn down the hateful rhetoric.

Jane and I are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our friend and my former colleague Joe Lieberman. I always respected his integrity, his commitment to finding common ground, and his independent streak in pursuit of what he thought was best for America.

This is the largest award so far from the #CHIPSAct, which I championed and helped enact during my time in the Senate. This announcement is a historic step forward in reshoring our domestic semiconductor supply chain, which is vital to our economic and national security.

It will also allow for the investment of over $100 billion into domestic semiconductor manufacturing, leading to the creation of 10,000 semiconductor and 20,000 construction jobs.

Today, the major part of the CHIPS Act is being implemented as @SecRaimondo announces an agreement with @Intel to get America back in the game on making these critical semiconductors. Includes $8.5 billion in federal grants for Intel’s U.S. semiconductor fabrication plants.

Ohio Republicans should see this for what it is – a cynical attempt by Chuck Schumer and the Democratic power brokers to choose our nominee. They are desperate to keep Matt Dolan from being on the ballot in November. Please join me in supporting Matt Dolan!
