Celebrating a Successful GUROC 2024 Conference in Toronto! ✨ This year’s GUROC Conference was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, strengthen existing partnerships, and establish exciting new collaborations. I’m thrilled to share some amazing updates: 📍 New Collaborations: We’re expanding our reach with new partnerships in North Bay, Thunder Bay, Victoria, Sunnybrook Toronto, and Manitoba. 📍 PC-PEP Growth in Quebec: Thanks to the incredible support from Tolmar, five new PC-PEP sites are set to launch in Quebec! 📍 Donor Appreciation: It was a pleasure to connect with REBECCA MORSE and Robin Hunter from Tolmar, whose generosity is instrumental in driving our mission forward. 📍 Site PI Engagement: It was equally wonderful to meet with several of our Clinical Site PIs, including those in New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador, and to discuss the transformative impact of our programs. This conference was a reminder of the power of collaboration and shared vision in advancing prostate cancer care and empowering patients. Thank you to all who made GUROC 2024 such a meaningful and productive event! Reflecting on an Incredible Retreat with PictouCountyPEP last week-end! 🌿💪 What an amazing milestone for PictouCountyPEP, nearing one year since our collaboration began! This program is making a real difference for chronic disease patients in our community by promoting preventative healthy living habitsthat reduce the burden of chronic illness in Pictou County—an area with some of the highest rates of chronic disease in Canada. Our recent retreat was a true celebration of wellness and connection, featuring: ✨ Stress reduction techniques ✨ Exercise sessions ✨ Transformative Qi-Gong practice ✨ Engaging, experiential sessions on nutrition and holistic mind, body, and spirit education Not to mention an incredible plant-based menu that nourished us all! 🥗🍲 We’re so grateful to our Aberdeen Health Foundation funders for making this impactful initiative possible. Together, we’re building a healthier future for our county, one step at a time. 💙 Thank you Aberdeen Health Foundation for making this possible, to all volunteers and community ambassadors! Here’s to continued collaboration and empowerment! 🙌 hashtag#PictouCountyPEP hashtag#ChronicDiseasePrevention @DalhousieU @DalEpidemiology @DalMedicine

On #NationalPhilanthropyDay, I am deeply humbled and grateful to have received the 2024 Public Impact Award at last night’s Discovery Awards, presented by the @DiscoveryCntr and supported by @_researchNS . This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of building communities of patient empowerment and active blue zones. This award belongs to everyone who has been part of this journey—patients, first and foremost, alongside clinicians, medical residents, budding epidemiologists, research staff, and generous supporters who share a vision of improving the lives of people diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Last night was truly special, filled with inspiration from the finalists and recipients who demonstrated the power of creativity, ingenuity, and hard work. I was deeply moved to celebrate this event with members of our community, including several cancer support groups and patients. Today, on #NationalPhilanthropyDay , I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our donors and funders. A special thank you to Frank and Debbi Sobey, whose creation of the @DalhousieU Soillse Prostate Cancer Research Fund laid the foundation for this work. I am also grateful to @_researchNS , @NSHealthHub , Aberdeen Health Foundation, Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute, @MovemberCA , @cancersociety , Tolmar, Bayer, Knight Pharmacy, Amgen, TerSera Therapeutics, and many others. The seeds they planted have grown into a thriving forest, transforming lives in Nova Scotia and beyond. The journey of the Patient Empowerment Program (PEP) began as a vision to empower cancer patients and has since grown into a global movement, expanding to programs for all cancer types and showing promising results for chronic disease patients. This success would not have been possible without my incredible team: PEP co-author and Program Clinical Lead, @RobRutledgeMD , our International Project Coordinator, Cody MacDonald, and so many others—Markos Tsirigotis, Moody Louise,MD, Cassidy Bradley, Lia Massoeurs, Alexandra Nuyens, Tarek Lawen, Jesse Spooner,MD Wyatt MacNevin,MD, Charlie Gillis,MD, Josh White,MD, Ricardo RENDON, Greg Bailly, David Bell, our clinical and site leads both in Canada and internationally (e.g., @prostatenz - Te Kāhui Mate Pukupuku Repe Tātea o Aotearoa Manatōpū, Peter Dickens, Medisprof ), @DalUrology . As we continue to build on this work—including the development of specialized programs for all cancers, chronic diseases, and, more recently, breast cancer—I feel so fortunate to be part of a team that is truly changing lives and creating communities of empowerment and healthy living. Thank you to everyone who made this award and this journey possible. Together, we are transforming patient care.
