The “parties switched” line is a common deflection, but it doesn’t erase history here. The Democratic-Republican Party of 1812 (the party of Jefferson and Madison) directly evolved into today’s Democratic Party. That’s the same party whose governor, Elbridge Gerry, literally invented and signed the original gerrymander to rig elections for his side. The modern Republican Party wasn’t even founded until 1854 — over 40 years later. Yes, both parties have changed over 200+ years, and both now gerrymander when they have the power. But pretending the party that created the term and the practice has no connection to today’s Democrats is just rewriting history to avoid accountability. Own it or at least be honest: both sides do it.

I left the store and stood on the side walk and multiple employees came out to intimidate me to leave and stop filming on the public sidewalk. The Police informed the staff that we did nothing wrong, the woman who called 911 cried and walked back into the building. No crime, No disturbance, Just a hat and a Thumbs up. The Boston Gazette cartooned it as the “Gerry-mander.” His party kept control of the senate. (Jan 1812 shown below) Democrats literally invented the term… and the practice. Today both sides do it. But let us at least be honest about where it began. Fair representation is its foundation — without dividing based on race.
