Today, I spoke with the President Herzog of Israel. I reiterated that the appalling treatment of civilians aboard the Gaza-bound flotilla was unacceptable, and that respect for human dignity must be upheld everywhere, at all times. I underlined the imperative of de-escalation in the Middle East, and the importance of a genuine resumption of dialogue among all parties. Progress toward peace and stability in the region must remain the clear, shared objective.

Canada is working to advance accountability, pursue durable solutions, and prioritize the voices of Rohingya communities in international efforts. It was a pleasure to connect with representatives of the Rohingya Maiyafuinor Collaborative Network to discuss Canada’s ongoing commitment to supporting the safety, dignity, and human rights of Rohingya in Myanmar, and the importance of inclusive dialogue and democratic processes grounded in the rule of law. #StandWithRohingya

Canada is committed to supporting sustainable development and climate resilience around the world. Today, I met with Patricia Fuller, President and CEO of the @IISD_news to discuss Canada’s climate finance commitments and the important linkages with our Africa strategy, particularly with regards to supporting African countries with climate adaptation projects.

Arthur Bielfeld was an advocate for social justice, a thoughtful theologian, a compassionate Rabbi at Temple Emanu‑El, and my dear friend for 40 years. Arthur’s life came to an end two weeks ago. Today, I rose in the House of Commons to honour his legacy. Our country is richer for the life and work of Rabbi Arthur Bielfeld.

Last year, on behalf of the Government of Canada, I launched Canada’s first ever Africa Strategy. Today, on Africa Day, we join partners across Africa to celebrate 63 years since the founding of the Organization of African Unity—now the @_AfricanUnion. I look forward to strengthening diplomatic engagement, trade, and people-to-people ties, including with African diaspora communities here in Canada.

The inaugural Leaside Day, hosted by @LeasideLife at Leaside Memorial Gardens, brought together neighbours, residents, and local organizations for a day of connection and community building. Great to engage with the people, groups, and organizations who make Leaside such a vibrant, tight-knit community.

The Thorncliffe Park Community Hub provides residents with a wide range of social, legal, health, and community services. Honoured to address residents of Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, the greater East Toronto community, and the organizations who call this space home, at an open house. The Hub strengthens inclusion, supports wellbeing, and brings our community together.

This afternoon, as part of the @liberal_party May #DaysofAction, I knocked on doors in Thorncliffe Park to connect with neighbours and hear their thoughts on the issues that matter most—including cost of living, housing affordability, and public safety. Grateful for the conversations & for the volunteers who made it possible.

Rep Day, an initiative through @CIVIX_Canada, connects youth with politics and civic life. Thoughtful discussion today with grade 10–12 students at Northern Secondary School on the issues affecting young people in Don Valley West—including climate change, employment, & artificial intelligence.

Canada's foreign policy must be rooted in partnership, grounded in our strengths, and responsive to an increasingly complex world. Yesterday in Regina, I hosted a productive roundtable with leaders from academia, agriculture, energy, civil society, and Indigenous communities, to hear perspectives on Canada’s evolving foreign policy. We heard clearly that Indigenous perspectives must be central to discussions on resource development, that Canada’s agricultural strength positions us to support global food security, and that Saskatchewan has a key role to play in advancing Canada's energy transition and resilient global supply chains.

Strong coordination between federal, provincial, and territorial partners is essential to maintaining Canada’s robust human rights system, while ensuring that it continues to grow to meet the needs of Canadians. It was inspiring to participate in the Forum of Ministers on Human Rights this week, where collaboration was at the heart of our discussions. Together, we are working to strengthen our approach, track our progress, and address the work that remains—both at home and alongside international partners.

In a world marked by profound geopolitical shifts, Canada’s credibility as a defender of human rights must be rooted in what we do at home. It was a privilege to address the Forum of Ministers on Human Rights, and to reaffirm our shared commitment—across federal, provincial, and territorial governments—to advancing human dignity, equity, and justice here in Canada.
