Today, Persian, Kurdish, Afghan and Turkic communities in Don Valley West and around the world are celebrating Nowruz, marking the beginning of spring and a new year. Even given the very painful situation in the Middle East, I wish all those celebrating much joy, safety, freedom and hope. Nowai Kal Mubarak Sha, Nowruz Mubarak, Happy Nowruz!

Our new Build Communities Stronger Fund will provide $17.2 billion over 10 years to build foundational infrastructure projects. Today, Minister @gregorrobertson announced our government’s first investment through the Fund — $183 million for the @cityoftoronto to build and repair local roads, bridges, water systems, and community centres. We are getting the basics right to help towns and cities grow.

Eid celebrations began early last night at the @tpwomenscomm Eid Bazaar at Jenner Jean-Marie Community Centre. Happy to drop by to support local women entrepreneurs, and to sit down with local artists working on Eid-themed drawings. Eid Mubarak!

Our government is working with the Iranian-Canadian community to ensure safety and security for all Canadians. Pleased to join Minister @gary_srp, Minister @FP_Champagne, members of @rcmpgrcpolice, @TorontoPolice, @YRP, @FINTRAC_Canada and Iranian-Canadians to listen to their concerns and examine how we can use the tools and resources available to build safer communities.

Canada is deepening its engagement with the Philippines at a pivotal moment, as we advance our Indo‑Pacific Strategy and the Philippines expands its efforts to to support shared security and economic priorities. It was a pleasure meeting with H.E. Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga last week, Ambassador of the Philippines to Canada, for a productive conversation about the opportunities ahead for Canada‑Philippines cooperation.

Our government is focused on what we can control: making life more affordable for Canadians. Last week, parliament passed key measures to save Canadians hundreds of dollars per year, including: ✅ A middle-class tax cut ✅ The first-time home buyers’ rebate ✅ The removal of the federal consumer fuel charge from legislation. Pleased to visit the Port of Toronto to tour the Spruceglen vessel to see first-hand how strategic investments in marine transportation and infrastructure can increase trade, and reduce environmental impact.

Iftar is a time of joy, reflection, and community. Pleased to join H.E. Mr. @Adriatik_K, Ambassador of Kosovo to Canada, and his wife Mrs. Nezaqete Kryeziu, for a friendly Iftar dinner yesterday. There is significant potential for deeper engagement between our two countries, particularly as we continue to diversify trade and expand partnerships with dynamic and emerging markets such as Kosovo. Thank you to the Ambassador and Mrs. Kryeziu for their generous hospitality and thoughtful exchange.

Canada and the Republic of Korea continue to deepen our strong relationship following the establishment of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. Pleased to meet with Mr. Younggi Ahn, Chargé d' Affaires of the Republic of Korea to Canada, to discuss our shared cooperation in defence and security and in multilateral forums, like the @IPUparliament.

In a shifting geopolitical landscape, Canada is making strategic and deliberate choices to better align development, economic and security objectives while remaining strongly committed to poverty reduction. The @MastercardFdn is an important partner to advancing education and financial inclusion, primarily in Africa. Great to meet with Jennifer Brennan, MCF's Senior Director of Canada Programs, to discuss the organization's alignment with Canada's Africa Strategy and how government, the private sector, and the non-profit sector can work together to build better development outcomes in Africa.

Service and community is at the heart of @ISNA_Canada’s work. Glad to join parliamentary colleagues and ISNA Canada volunteers for an iftar night on the hill, and to learn more about ISNA’s community programs and outreach.

The Dominican Republic is an important partner for Canada in the Caribbean, and our bilateral relationship only continues to grow. Great to join H.E. José Alfonso Blanco Conde and my colleague @MonaFortier to discuss our countries' shared commitment to democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and inclusive economic development. We look forward to developing our partnership in areas such as responsible resource development, tourism, and manufacturing.
