I have a limited amount of days off of work because of my job, so I only went to regionals I didn't have to take PTO. True of many American players. Time is also money. I used my PTO to take care of my sick mom and get married, but shame on me I guess for not having more PTO?

i really think that its almost impossible to "larp pokemon" because theres so many different ways to experience the franchise and feel a deep connection to it but that logan paul motherfucker is LARPING POKEMON

Reminder that the few people who are chronically online or loud on Twitter are not the entire “Pokémon TCG community”. There are people who attend events, collect, play live - who don’t even know what a limitless is. Also in general, be kinder and more aware of perspective!

@spacedaddygang job market isn't great right now, and many of us are stuck in situations not conducive or supportive or hobbies. Again doesn't mean we have the skill yet, but not getting the chance to play prevents the growth and experience that many need before succeeding.

@spacedaddygang It's possible! Depends where you live, what airports are close and such. And some of it is luck, I tried to sign up for Indy but it sold out instantly. For me I literally have no other days I can take off this year, so any other regionals would jeopardize my employment.

@spacedaddygang I'm not saying Pokemon needs to chang how it does worlds, but the point being OP disregarding the financial realities of so many people is wrong. Even if you focus on younger people, in juniors and seniors you need families that can afford it and don't mind kids missing school.

@Rob_lebae Right, so Pokemon should adjust with how it has adjusted. It absolutely does fall behind real life obligations tho

@wellspringmask Summers off is a plus! I direct summer school so I don't get totally off. If we had summer events besides worlds I could really play more. Also, private schools have different rules which make some parts easier some parts harder. Pay is better, but employment guarantees are not.

@spacedaddygang It's a priority in my interests, it's my number 1 hobby. But that doesn't mean it falls behind family, or work obligations. I've been working like this since I was 18 even when I was a "younger audience" Masters division is ant 18+ and in VGC many great players are in their 30s.

@Rob_lebae Yeah, it's not a priority so it's not for you. You don't have the capability to do what was ultimately meant for younger audiences to compete in.

@wellspringmask I feel that! I'm a private school teacher so there's of pressure to not miss. If I missed work and then somehow got on stream and a student saw and parents got mad, as an at will employee, there's nothing stopping them from firing me. I don't think they would, but it's a risk

@Rob_lebae I feel the same way, even if I could afford going to another regional or an IC, my job doesn’t allow me to take off that much (at least not without making me feel guilty), especially in the throes of time-sensitive projects. It’s very frustrating ngl

Point being, I probably don't have the sauce, but maybe I do, but I can only know and work on it for regionals that don't conflict with my complicated work schedule, and not all financial implications are purely money, time, family situations, child care are all financial

I definitely am not good enough to qualify for worlds yet, but still I've beaten regional champions during GCs, beaten folks who have top cut at regionals at a regional, even beat a player who Wolfe made a team for and coached
