The only reason religious belief is not in the DSM-5 is because religious insanity is ubiquitous in the world and mental health professionals, psychologists and psychiatrists are either unwilling to insult and anger the religious or they, themselves, are to one degree or another, religiously delusional. Susceptibility to religious ideas is biologically, genetically based and due to that the world is an insane asylum. If religious belief were at 10% rather than 85 to 90% it would no doubt be in the DSM-5! I think religious belief, like most things, runs along a spectrum. With religion it’s like….from none … to mild …to wild …to bat-shit crazy. Approaching the wild point it seems to be like a kind of “partial insanity“ where otherwise rational, intelligent people’s thinking goes off the rails, at least, where their religious beliefs are concerned. And, of course, at the bat-shit crazy stage…the train is completely derailed. Beyond mild, religion is a mental illness. The only question is how far towards the bat-shit crazy end of the spectrum are you? Is THIS you?

This will, no doubt go right over your head, in one ear and out the other because your religious programming won’t allow the information in….In reality your religious beliefs became a HUGE part of your “SELF” throughout the 18 years of parental childhood indoctrination while being fully immersed within Christian culture and always surrounded by people that also believe…. Due to that your adult brain is on High-Alert “SELF” DEFENSE MODE. Desperate to avoid an “Identity Crisis”. Because of this your brain is locked, literally closed-minded on-purpose…. HIGHLY resistant to considering valid disconfirming evidence or arguments. What you definitely are NOT doing is actually THINKING about disconfirming evidence. Actually considering disconfirming evidence.

@jnygage @MattSmethurst I’m not genetically predisposed towards religious belief, wasn’t indoctrinated into a religious cult throughout childhood my brain’s most vulnerable, susceptible, impressionable and formative years so I have no “YOUR god”. I’m far too rational for that.
