ALERT: Machete-wielding man shot and killed by NYPD officer after refusing to drop the knife and shouting, “I am Lucifer” in newly released bodycam footage. Since the 1824 Baring loan, Arg's experienced recurrent cycles of external/fiscal imbalance,often ending in default,devaluation,and periods of high inflation. There is no single continuous "current", just different regimes producing similar outcomes.

@SandyofCthulhu Argentina has neither the will nor the resources to start another war. There wouldn't be the element of surprise of 1982 if Arg decided to make a move. Besides, Milei doesn't care for the islands. He's Maggie's biggest fan.

Argentina's navy has fallen upon hard times (it got shrunk in 1996), and it has aging ships (1980s vintage). Milei has said he's going to turn things around but it's too soon to see an effect. Basically debt reduction is more important than naval expansion right now (which I agree with). That said, they have 9 surface ships, the biggest of which are 3400 tons. Their entire submarine fleet is basically in dry dock. Their exocets are all expired. They have a miniscule naval air arm. On the other hand, their only need for a navy is to take the Falklands, and the British are not in terrific shape themselves. It's clear that if the Argentines had the navy they had back in 1980, and the British had the relative size navy of today, the Argentines would win. Now both navies are in the doldrums. Britain is still ahead at this point so it would be whether or not Britain has the will to win. Or, I guess, Milei cares enough to make move, which it seems he does not.
