@TonightVMTV @think_or_swim For the agri sector: You can’t price people out of diesel when no viable alternative is available. While some electrical prototype low hp tractors have been developed, no high hp agri machines are available that would give the same run time as a full tank of diesel .

@PeteGDunne Yes you are correct. In 2018 when beast from the east hit the country, I gave 3 days clearing snow from regional and local roads for LCC. Only agri contractors and farmers had the machinery to get the roads open.

@nomorequangos You are correct. There is loyalty between farmers and contractors , however this is not fixed , this can change and there becomes a breaking point if price becomes more of a factor it can break the loyalty relationship.

Hauliers are price takers more than agricultural contractors. This is typical of ignorance that fucks up policy. There's a serious amount of loyalty between a farmer and his agri contractor. Not so with hauliers and big business run by accountants They'd drop you on s whim.

I suspect if the Customs were to dip those agricultural vehicles doing slow rolling blockades a vast majority would be using marked diesel. Seizing a few of those vehicles would stop this pretty quickly.

@DavQuinn Martin, Harris, O'Callaghan, McEntee are failed leaders. They have failed the farmers, the truckers and the people. Unless Ireland puts in place a Michael Collins' type to lead the country, it will collapse.

I’ve no issue with people having cats, but hearing their ability to kill wild animals being championed on a poplar evening current affairs radio show is very odd. It’s estimated they kill 16 million birds a year in Ireland. I think we need a bit more responsible messaging.

@Niall_Boylan The fact SH had to read an article in a paper outlining these issues is all you need to know about FG . If FG don’t do a clear out soon they won’t have a party left .

Can he not see his own words? He claims the pendulum has swung too far and that it’s time for it to swing back, yet his party under his leadership and alongside others is responsible for the division in society, the rising cost of living, the lack of housing, and the absence of a first-world healthcare system, immigration chaos, the shambolic presidential election etc etc among other issues . These people are delusional, yet the public keeps falling for it every time. The only reason they offer these soundbites is their fear of losing power
Simon Harris TD@SimonHarrisTD

Thoughtful and thought-provoking piece. Too many layers, too many structures , processes that take too long. Time for the pendulum to swing back. This will be a big part of my work and focus with colleagues in the months ahead.

I sincerelycongratulate Catherine Connolly on the huge support she has received from the people of Ireland in the Presidential election. The people have spoken : I think the BIG take away from this campaign for me is the fact that our 2 main centre parties Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael combined together to unfairly BLOCK the participation of any other candidates - independent and otherwise, denying the general public their democratic rights and effectively forcing over 10% of the electorate to spoil their vote - for that behaviour I think they should be heavily penalised for time to come / they acted in a truly disgraceful manner, putting their own narrow political agenda before democracy and they should be ashamed for pushing so many people into desecrating the ballot paper because they simply felt they had no choice - I say this as somebody who had proposed a very fine independent candidate who simply couldn’t get the support of Oireachtas members or county councils because FF & FG blocked him. Shame on them - this can never be allowed to happen again
