Les chrétiens croient en un Dieu unique mais trinitaire : le Père, le Fils et le Saint-Esprit. Ils partagent la même substance et sont chacun entièrement ce Dieu unique, mais ils sont aussi chacun une personne à part entière. Jésus-Christ est ici le Fils, entièrement Dieu et aussi entièrement homme. Cela fait partie des grands mystères de la théologie. C'est naturel d'avoir du mal à l'appréhender : Dieu est impossible à définir pour nos esprits ancrés dans la matière, le temps et l'espace.
