Time is not a universal ticking, but rather a measure of the density of state changes. Places with high energy flux, strong fields, or intense interactions possess a higher event density. More happens there per local state. Places with little coupling and low energy are poor in events. Between the two, an asymmetric process time can arise — and this can in principle be exploited technically.
