Most graduates of French immersion programs in the rest of Canada would struggle to function in francophone Quebec and appear to lose what rudimentary French-language abilities they acquire within a few years of leaving school. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Mr. Lewis of Leap Manifesto fame is the most ideologically hardened candidate. No one will confuse him with a Liberal. He shows signs of being a mobilizer, leading the campaign in new membership sign-ups and fundraising. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Cashing in millions from Strait of Hormuz blockade? An Iranian lawmaker claims Tehran is quietly charging tankers up to $2 million for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The move threatens to turn the key waterway into a high-stakes toll booth. dw.com/en/is-iran-cas…

In 40 minutes, Donald said: the Strait of Hormuz isn't closed, but he wants it reopened; we’re not at war with Iran, but our allies are cowards for not helping; he wants a ceasefire, but he doesn’t want one. He also declared victory three times. Such clarity. Such leadership.

Emperors and Adelies both like to "toboggan" over flat and/or downhill ice; it's much faster than walking. It helps if you are especially well-fed 😉 Weddell Sea, Antarctica.

5 minutes before Trump’s announcement: * $1.5B notional worth of S&P500 (ES) futures are bought in a single clip. * $192M notional of oil futures (CL) sold. More than 4x-6x any other trade size during the market close. Insiders profited from his lies in broad daylight!

BBC correspondent admits Trump is backing down and conceding defeat. Iran threatened to obliterate Gulf desalination plants. Without water the Gulf states collapse in days. They begged Trump to stop. Total humiliation for Washington.

Cancel culture is bad for business. Bluesky is learning why. The social media platform just raised $100M but faces a major barrier to growth. (gift article) wapo.st/4uMitTl

NEW: 🚨 🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The USS Gerald Ford is expected to be out of service for at least 14 months but likely 2 years. That was some “laundry room fire”…

What I'm surprised about in the SHY GIRL controversy isn't so much that parts of the book were generated by AI, but why Hachette picked up such a shitty book in the first place. It's really bad. I feel sorry for the 1800 people in the UK who purchased it.
