The most incredible thing about Southampton and spygate is that, still, so much energy has gone into "err this is unfair" rather than apologising to fans, arranging refunds and going cap in hand to to beg them to stick with the club. They have torched their entire reputation.

As the broadcaster announce their World Cup pundit line up, the usual noisemakers will mutter about box ticking appointments, but blimey, which box is Rooney ticking? Appealing to the mumbling impenetrable accent & Henry VIII tribute act crowd? #bbcworldcup #itvworldcup #worldcup
