Rain has become mudslide. The car doesn't brake, it steers through liquefied terrain, rear end swinging wide on each switchback, catching grip on whatever's still solid. A section of road drops away twenty meters ahead. The car jumps it. Landing compresses the frame. Wipers can't keep up. The finish line is below somewhere but the camera only knows forward and down. Mud brown and hazard orange, tungsten headlight cones cutting gray murk, 1980s Group B rally photography, Fujifilm Superia grain, matte paint splattered with earth, dark pine green blur in periphery, overcast flat light with no shadows. Gimbal-locked camera on a speedboat threading a ship graveyard during a typhoon. Swells the size of buildings, hulls appearing from spray without warning. The boat doesn't navigate, it reacts. Hard cuts between wave faces, propeller cavitation on the peaks, freefall into troughs where the sky disappears. A cargo ship's bow emerges directly ahead, listing, shedding containers. The boat splits the gap between hull and waterline, close enough to scrape paint.
