@bitcloud If you wake up and the person you are with has already put on make up, you aren’t in a relationship, you’re in a theatre production. That would be a hollow experience for a person not to trust you enough to be themselves with you.

@utdbrxy Other fans don’t care if city win cause they have no history. Can’t have a “banter era” at a club that people don’t care about. If people would rather you win than another club, that’s not fear,it’s disinterest. It’s knowing it doesn’t affect their legacy cause you don’t matter.

@ITVNewsPolitics Can we get some journalists to do their job and ask what “naughty stuff” reform want to do that they don’t want live streamed?

'I really wanted to come on in a Reform tartan burka, but apparently I wasn't allowed' 'On day lets do one of these events not livestreamed. We'll do all the naughty stuff' Sarah Pochin says she wants to wear a tartan burka at Reform's Scottish Election launch

@lisavsworld I’ll have you know that my joyous path of cynicism into drugs and debauchery walks hand in hand with my rejection of the conformity of my youth. In fact, I would say that I’m most sincere at my most debauched 😂

People don't want to hear this... but this is actually Millennials. Andy Weir is a Gen X, but the sincerity of his books speak to the generation under him. Millennials grew up in a time where they bullied each other for being sincere as the nihilism of Gen X culture was the dominant force. As soon as we became adults, we split into two groups: 1) continued on the path of cynicism into drugs, debauchery, and pushing back against personal responsibility, or 2) were free of the conformity of our youth and could finally do whatever we wanted and ernestly as we wished. This is why authors like Andy Weir have an audience, filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve as well. People are craving sincerity after a lifetime of being told not to care.

If you see Project Hail Mary this weekend, I hope you'll remember how I told you over 3 years ago that stuff like this was going to explode in pop culture. -From ironic cynicism to post-ironic sincerity. -Embracing the "cringe" & the celebration of the earnest "try-hard." -From deconstructing the past, to a nostalgia for some positive "vibe" we lost in the deconstruction. -The rejection of Fight Club-era nihilism. -The ability to stare at the apocalypse in front of you and be hopeful instead of a "doomer."

If F•R•I•E•N•D•S was cast in 2026. I think they’d did pretty good for the most part, I just don’t know who the guys for Chandler or Ross are. 😂

@sheisscherry The dark thing about the Ellie criticism is that from the casting announcement, before the show had come out, it was negative. It seemed more tied up in people finding Ellie attractive and the casting not matching people’s expectation, whereas Lady Mormont didn’t suffer that. 🤢

@ThatGuy28780245 Man City fans aren’t used to it and most their fanbase don’t remember (or weren’t fans) before the oil money. Teams have caught up and their young fans are having to learn new emotions 😅

@AccrueReturns @BBCBreaking I think drilling would have only added security if we wholly owned our oil fields but having sold them off decades prior, I’m not sure it would have actually insulated us. If we could go back further and not sell off the oil then I agree. A sovereign wealth fund backed by oil 👌

@RoboGoose_ @BBCBreaking We should have been building green capacity and drilling our own oil and gas for years. Instead Britain chose dependence, fragility and net zero cobblers with no serious energy security behind it. Now the bill lands where it always does, on households.

@AccrueReturns @BBCBreaking We should have been investing in green energy for the past 20 years to insulate us from this nonsense. Oil is too volatile to be the basis for our energy.

@BBCBreaking This is what happens when energy security is neglected. One disruption abroad and British Gas prices rip higher. We’re too exposed, too dependent and ultimately households always foot the bill. Britain should not be this fragile.

@themarinadove This discourse is fast becoming “I don’t like Chalamet anymore so I’m going to find a reason to complain about Dune irrespective of what the author’s intentions were, even if they were literally exactly the opposite of what my stated problem is”

a good portion of Dune is frank herbert explicitly writing out Jessica’s thoughts about doing exactly this and her being aware the entire time she is putting on fremen culture as a costume to make her white son a messiah mostly out of pride and not love.
Rashanu🍉@FibroFogFig

This film is just plain appropriation and daylight robbery of West Asian and North African people's language and culture atp considering the cast. If you didn't know who this white lady is, you'd think it's just a photo of an indigenous Algerian woman.

@RedSpectre5 It actually seems to switch as and when people see fit. You’re pro barbarian under threat (here from the gays, apparently),you’re genteel when wanting to give the air of being better than a culture you deem lesser.Often comes up in the way men talk about women.Dominate vs Protect

@uskglasses Hot take; I think the Arabic elements were used by Herbert to make the idea of religious genocides more palatable to readers so he could write a story that is clearly about misuse of any religion for war. Not making the characters Arabic actually helps to make that clear.

i don't think dune handles its racial politics perfectly but i also don't think "make the characters embarking on a violent genocidal jihad in the desert look arab" is a good plan guys
Rashanu🍉@FibroFogFig

A film full of references to Arabic language and Islamic concepts. With sheer lack of Muslim and Arab cast. Even the names are in Arabic Farok/Faruq. Someone let Hollywood know they can cast Arabs and WANA Muslims, your country hasn't yet bombed all the Arabs outta existence.

@hisugarfoxx RotS is fun, and it’s certainly nostalgic for people of a certain age but the glazing it gets with no critical analysis is why people struggle to take prequels fans seriously in these conversations. I enjoy both, but Dune as a story and film is operating on a different level.
