Fans never accept any refs mistakes. That’s the problem and exactly why VAR was brought in. The forensics analysis of every refs decision before VAR was the conception of VAR. Fans and players only want decisions to go their way whether they are correct or not.
Andy McKellar@AMcKellar89

VAR, I think, may be a factor. In real-time fans can accept that a referee can make a mistake, be unsighted or not have the best angle for something that happens quickly. VAR allows time, multiple angles, slow motion replays and still the most basic of mistakes are made. So with raised expectations, people are more annoyed at errors

Those people ludicrously suggesting a time limit on video ref decisions that Newman /Hall incident is one for you. VR now under pressure to get on with it and doesn’t run the footage through to the end.

@CherryWhitePins I’ve no time to argue with an angry partisan. Sam tomkins and Jon Wilkin were of the view it clearly went backwards. Which it did

@Rod_Studd Knocked on! You do that anywhere on the pitch its a knock on. Dropping the ball is a loose carry and classed as a knock on. Did Eckersley knock his back too?

@CherryWhitePins It wasn’t knocked on. It was knocked backwards by Newman though not grounded. The try was scored by Hall. It was a mistake. These things happen but they happen more often when decisions are rushed.

@AaronBower Were you pleased with the speedy VR decision even though the broadcaster immediately proved it was wrong?

This will end up being another 55 minute half of rugby. Too many stoppages. 🚮

The spot of that Wigan penalty was correct. The offence was on the chasing player not the kicker.

It’s half time at Aston Villa vs Liverpool. The game clock at Wigan vs Leeds is showing 38 minutes. I mention this just in passing.

@Rod_Studd And for the love of god, my only point was about using the VR after tries - you keep bringing it back to captain’s challenge.
