One week ago today I was sworn in as the 40th Mayor for the City of Duluth. I remain humbled and in all of the challenges, opportunities, and responsibility. Thank you Duluth!

BREAKING: Crews are battling a large fire at the Caribou Highlands Resort in Lutsen, MN. The company says "emergency traffic and smoke from the fire are making the area unsafe at the moment." We are working to learn more. Stay with @NorthernNewsNow for updates.

We are seeing the back edge of this snow system move through. Improving conditions are being reported to our west; however, an area of enhanced snowfall remains over the North Shore and parts of Northern Wisconsin. Check local road conditions before heading out early this morning

Tough out there this morning, Duluth! Snow and wind are dying down, but around 9" overnight with rates of 2"+/hr. Plows were focused on priority P1s roads all night and have not yet gotten to side streets. Stay home if you can. You'll be safer and make it easier for the plows.

A reminder when it's snowing 1"+/hr our snow crews are 100% focused on just keeping P1 main routes open for emergency vehicles, hospital workers, and those who must be out and about.

A significant winter storm will be arriving into the Northland this evening, bringing intense snowfall rates this evening into tonight. Heaviest snowfall amounts of 12+" are expected around Lake Superior, especially in the higher elevations of the North/South Shores. #mnwx #wiwx

Happy Birthday to the City of Duluth! On March 6, 1870, the Legislature granted Duluth its city charter and officially incorporating it as a city. The first municipal election followed on April 4, 1870, and Joshua Culver was elected Duluth's first mayor.

Freezing mist all over town. Crews are out salting and sanding but DANGEROUS driving conditions. If you have to be out go slow and leave LOTS of space. If you can, wait for things to warm up. Road conditions will dramatically improve.
