Don’t agree tbh, it’s disproportionately inefficient to learn through vibes in fighting games compared to for example FPS games. You passively learn Dust 2 by playing it because there’s clear patterns and easily digestible information. In a fighting game, yeah sure you’ll get a hang of your character by just playing a lot. You also develop all of your fundamentals by playing. You literally can’t rawdog figure out combos without labbing. You literally can’t learn how to option select out of blockstrings without labbing, because in a game you either block everything or you don’t and a LOT of the time when you don’t it’s not clear why. It’s not really comparable to other game genres imo

@RohanGod_ You can learn both neutral and blocking while just playing online and mashing light combos until you get the hang of it and move on to learning more difficult combos just like you learn what angle to hold and how to position in certain maps in FPS games

Pretty much the entire FGC is cooking this guy, but he lowkey has a point. It’s more about perception than it is about reality. Today’s hyper-casual gamers want everything dumbed down as much as possible so that they can feel good. Perfect case in point, that dude plays Marvel Rivals. The easiest “competitive game” literally ever. You can also look at any crossplay FPS title. Call of Duty, Apex Legends, etc. Aim assist has evolved to the point of being soft aimbot. Try to raise a discussion about nerfing it? The hyper-casual controller playerbase throws a tantrum. Modern gamers have been dumbed down pretty much across the board. Skill gaps are erased, and participation trophies are distributed. It’s more important to feel good than be good. Fighting games don’t have actual safety nets and systems in place that will hold your hand and play the game for you like a LOT of competitive games nowadays do. Fighting games instantly strip the illusion away and tell you directly to your face: “You are really bad. You lost. Sorry, not sorry.” The unfortunate reality is that statement instantly makes fighting games unreachable to a large population of gamers lol.
Karkat@KarkatSG

The difference is, in every other game genre you can learn the game by playing the actual game, with friends even (imagine that!), not sitting alone in the lab for dozens of hours to commit combos to muscle memory so that you have even the slightest chance of not instantly losing

It also is true that a LOT of getting better at a fighting game comes from outside playing the game itself. Much moreso than other game genres, but that’s a whole nother discussion.

2XKO // Progress Log #4: Gold has been conquered. Platinum, you’re next. This game is really fucking fun. Fighting games as a whole are REALLY fun, I love ‘em. The entire game genre’s progression is like a big litmus test to filter out the weak-minded cowards who are too afraid to confront and overcome their own lack of ability. That’s just too fucking cool man, idc what you say LMFAO. I finally began to feel some pushback when I fought some people in Plat, so I’m going to take a pit stop on the ranked climb to polish up some stuff and actually learn how to interact with the game. I’m gonna post a video update talking about more of those details later today, on here. Also I’m planning on doing a couple of 2XKO streams at the end of this coming week, probably Thursday/Friday.

@Heyitsmedunk I have been actually, shit’s insane and a big motivation for why I’m taking a little break from ranked LMAO Their meterless combos do more damage than the noob ones I’m using that end w level 1 😭

2XKO // Progress Log #2: We’re moving. My initial pathing for 2XKO was pretty scuffed. Here’s the jungle clear: 1. Started off with ~30min in the lab to get an initial grasp of buttons. 2. Next, I went into casuals until I had ranked unlocked. 3. Instantly queued up ranked. I think I started out like 5W-30L? Something similar to that, good stuff. A common question I get is about my approach to playing new games. Unironically, that’s how my initial learning process always goes lol. I like to completely disregard results and aggressively limit-test to quickly acclimate myself to the feel of how a game actually plays. I also believe that you can only get an accurate sense for this feeling in the competitive playlist. Everyone plays differently when stakes are involved, even when the stakes are as low as 10LP in Iron. Of course, this strategy is REALLY not friendly towards ranked anxiety LMAO. Experience gap tbh. Who would’ve guessed, but turns out that 15 years of sociopathically grinding ranked ladders kinda gives you immunity to a lot of the pressures of ranked! Nice! After my initial limit test: I returned to the lab, learned 2 basic strings for both Ahri and Darius, and then launched right back into ranked. Obviously barely lost since I’m in Iron lol, barebones fundamentals were enough for me to win 80% of my initial matches. Super thankful I started out my FGC journey with SF6, btw 😭 My main focus is working on my assist usage. Both for calling them more often and capitalizing better off of them. Also I have like zero idea on how to properly punish wall bounces and I’m bad at following up on anti-airs, but that’s chill! I know I’m nooblow, and that mix-ups and the game in general are going to get EXTREMELY grimy once I reach Master, so it might be too early to say. But, I’m currently enjoying 2XKO a lot more than I did SF6. I really really hated interacting with the Drive meter, and holy fuck throw loops are stupid as fuck and don’t have a place in fighting games man I don’t care. I’m saying this as somebody that abused the fuck out of them on Mai btw. They’re stupid and boring and unskilled and I hate them LMFAO
