Long Rant: Riot Games // Competitive Videogames.
As a longtime fan of Riot Games and competitive integrity, seeing the current state of the ranked ladders of both League of Legends AND Valorant genuinely makes me kinda sad lol.
For the past 5 years, the quality of competitive gaming has been on a perpetual nosedive. Excessive monetization, microtransactions, and fully catering towards the hyper-casual playerbase has taken a devastating toll across the table.
We've seen the soul of videogames stripped away, and the void it left behind has been replaced with patchnotes exclusively filled with skins, gacha gambling, and a bunch of other random garbage microtransaction slop.
We've seen patents for sophisticated matchmaking algorithms to literally just rig the ranked queue to trap you in a dopamine feedback loop so you keep queueing and buying skins. We've also seen mainstream games where these algorithms were almost definitely implemented. Looking at you, Marvel Rivals!
We've seen crossplay FPS literally cease to work anymore because aim assist has evolved into straight up soft-aim, all to make Little Timmy feel good about himself when he melts Shroud on Warzone with 100% accuracy. Maybe after he does, he'll steal Mom's card and buy a skin or two!
But you know what? All throughout the decay, I would always preach to my friends, to my followers, to basically anybody that would listen: Riot Games is doing it differently. They're doing it right.
Amidst the trash and the hollow shells of former greatness, Riot Games and their ranked ladders stood alone as the final bastion of competitive integrity.
Now? I don't know if I can say that anymore. Let's look at League of Legends! The Challenger cutoff is closing in on 2,000 LP, a number that used to be inconceivable.
Tens of thousands of players flooding into Master tier, a rank that used to mean something to anybody that made it past the tutorial of the game.
And our response? You're all wrong! This looks fine! Hopefully we see someone hit 4,000 LP!
What the fuck?
Then I turn around and I look at VALORANT, a competitive videogame that is almost on year 6 without ranked rewards.
6 years, no ranked rewards.
A community that's COMPLETELY given up on the game. Seriously, across every single game I've ever played, I have never seen a more jaded, given up playerbase.
And why wouldn't they be jaded? What's the point? Why would you endlessly grind a dwindling ranked ladder with literally no light at the end of the tunnel?
You add in the fact that steadily, more and more players give up and launch the game out of habit alone, and the game slowly becomes borderline unplayable if you have ANY passion or desire to win and rank up.
Now, what's the solution to this problem?
Lower the threshhold to hit Radiant. Maybe if we make the ranked ladder LOOK full, people will stop quitting!
WHAT THE FUCK???
I really don't know. I'd love to see some sort of miraculous turn-around where they save both games and their ranked ladders. But I'm not so sure a miracle is coming.
If it doesn't, Deadlock will be our saving grace.

@Khal1dQT Valorant has everybody else except for legacy Radiant accounts perpetually gaining +14 -25. League had EVERYONE gain +30 -10.
Literally just equalize gains around +/- 20. Boom, problem solved!
As for ranked rewards, playercards / titles / skins / glowing aura. Simple stuff
English

@RohanGod_ What would you change about the hidden mmr system instead of the threshold stuff?
Also what ranked rewards do you suggest for valorant

THIS IS ACTUALLY AN ELO HACK BTW
Bailey Klemmensen@iiKlemm
Competitive gamers: dunking your face in cold water might be the fastest way off tilt. Studies confirm a parasympathetic shift: ↑ Mood ↓ Heart rate ↓ Stress & anger Tilt = ↑ fight-or-flight Cold water is an off switch. Tilted? Dunk your face in cold water for 30 sec.

🚨RARE OPPORTUNITY🚨
If you've ever wanted to learn about how I rank up in every videogame, now's a great chance. I'll be doing a little improvement crash course in the @Neuroptima discord tonight at 8PM EST! (4 hours from now)
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE🤝

@RohanGod_ I'd only say this starts to rly matter in like at EARLIEST Diamond - not saying that it's a useless skill before for sure, but imo the other ones will provide a greater contribution to your win % over a large number of games than something like limit knowledge will
English

League skills that will actually help you climb:
- Macro
- Consistency
- Map awareness
- Discipline
- Jungle tracking
- Tilt management
- Wave manipulation
League skills that just make you look flashy with minimal impact on climbing until higher ranks:
- Mechanics
- Speed
- Aggression
- Limit knowledge
- In-combat map awareness
- Decisiveness
Elolesio@Elolesio_
Overrated league skills: - Macro - Consistency - Map awareness - Discipline - Jungle tracking - Tilt management - Wave manipulation Underrated league skills: - Mechanics - Speed - Aggression - Limit knowledge - In-combat map awareness - Decisiveness

@drewlevin @LLAMATRADER123 @bonevoid whats the statue of limitations on being a complete piece of shit for like, years straight though?
this guy 100% deserves a retroactive punishment (perma his main) even if he's stopped atp lol
English

@LLAMATRADER123 @bonevoid those are from last year
English

@Metaaphor ur a beast. how many games did it take, whats the purple flame mean, and is t250 even possible?
English

@void_speaker genuinely dont know lol, ive been duo/trio so that prob helps a lot
English

@echoshardlover I think like 90% of my games are on celeste lmao, if she gets gutted into unplayable-tier I'd potentially swap to Haze/Seven/Mina.
I'll still prob OTP Celeste even if she gets nerfed into B/C tier, I like the champ design too much

Thoughts on Deadlock [NOOB EDITION:]
Helloge, been spamming (giga-addicted, love this shit) Deadlock for a bit over a week. Here are my initial thoughts on the game, coming from the perspective of me being a noob.
Pros:
- THIS GAME IS JUST SO FUCKING FUN MAN. I'm serious, legit haven't been as addicted to a game since I first started playing League. It's just too fun and high tempo at basically every stage of the game lmao.
- No glaze, Deadlock's item system is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. It's especially insane coming from League, where items are currently SUPER stale and unsatisfying to complete. There's ALWAYS a dozen different options for any given scenario and comp, and you can literally play a completely different character by swapping your build around. Un-fucking-real.
- HOOOOLY FUCK VALVE MOVEMENT IS #1???? The movement system in DL is SO FUCKING FUN MAN, the skill ceiling being as high as it is makes movement tech SO satisfying and rewarding to execute. Fluid, high skill ceiling, and practical. Doesn't get better than that.
I compare my gameplay to top players and I'm a fat stupid chud. Love to see it, no sarcasm.
- CHARACTER DESIGN AND ARTSTYLE IS SICK AS FUCK??? Everything just looks cool as fuck, nothing's samey (Overwatch Kiriko-face XD!) Game looks so good in basically every way, from champion design to ability VFX to map design to item splash-art.
Cons:
- Ranked system XD. Game is still in alpha though so it's not a big deal at all lol, definitely won't be like this on launch.
[DISCLAIMER: THESE MAY BE ME NOOB DIFF!]
- I feel like the income difference between afk farming vs skirmishing is can be too severe? Non-solo kills feel REALLY worthless soul-wise, and 1 bad skirmish, misplay, or even you dying for a numbers up trade (3 for 1 but you die) feels really shit because suddenly you're just down 2k souls to the guy jerking off at a walker shooting at minions?
- It can feel VERY hard to progress the game/end when your teammates are shit.
For example, in League if you have 2 bots and 3 good players: If your 3 good players are noticeably ahead, it's really straightforward to progress the game and force the enemy team to do things. Force baron, dragon, invade their red/blue.
Feels like in general, it's a lot harder to force numbers-down plays. Probably due to a combination of counter-items, longer TTK, and the way mid-boss works (global audio cue, rejuv delay, and really easy to steal/fight the team in the pit)
OVERALL: 10/10 experience, no troll. This game is fucking IT. Legitimately will be the savior of competitive gaming, which has been dogshit for the past like 4 years lmfao.
WILL BE STREAMING THIS STARTING NEXT WEEK, CYA SOON🫡

LMFAO-- so you admittedly know nothing about nutrition yet accept a sponsorship from a supplement company?! You think they're marketing to adults with that branding? Be for real...
I challenge you to find a single one of my tweets where I "lie" to push my products.
Moreover, here are 5 more studies finding respiration is DIRECTLY linked to neural network activity (my pinned tweet):

In the future, I'd recommend doing an *ounce* of research on the topic before you start blasting off on the TL (especially when you clearly know nothing about it).
Nevertheless, best of luck with your YT animations :)

@jacksonwh0 ill keep playing it and if its unplayable ill just swap to a diff carry lmao

@RohanGod_ CURSE OF THE RA ON YOUR MMR FOR PLAYING GLITTLER 𓀁 𓀂 𓀃 𓀄 𓀅 𓀆 𓀇 𓀈 𓀉 𓀊 𓀋 𓀌 𓀍 𓀎 𓀏 𓀐 𓀑 𓀒 𓀓 𓀔 𓀕 𓀖 𓀗 𓀘 𓀙 𓀚 𓀛 𓀜 𓀝 𓀞 𓀟 𓀠 𓀡 𓀢 𓀣 𓀤 𓀥 𓀦

@cl5rys @RohanGod_ no, it's not a 'fancy way of saying decision making'
think of cognitive load as the infrastructure required to reahc the decision in the first place, ie. all the live variables you need to hold in your head while clicking/shooting/whatever at the same time
English

When we’re talking about the most difficult competitive videogame, there is 1 aspect of a game that determines difficulty more than EVERYTHING else.
It’s not aim or mouse control.
It’s not macro, awareness, or game sense.
It’s not how many gold players a pro can simultaneously beat.
And it’s DEFINITELY not “transferable skills” (LMFAO!!!!!)
The Mental Stack. The mental stack of a game, something I very rarely see people bring up, is IMO the single biggest determinant of a videogame’s difficulty.
This is all from the perspective of a ranked player, pro-play is a whole separate category.
As the most multitalented gamer ever, I figured I should give my 2 cents on the topic after spectating the whole Rocket League vs Overwatch war.
It was funny seeing people from both ends make the most diabolically stupid points, but WAY too many people were seriously clueless on why and how a game’s difficulty is determined.
IMO, the winner goes to Overwatch. The deciding factor is the difference in mental stack between games, and I didn’t see a single person bring it up.
The mental stack is essentially how much information and how many tasks your brain needs to compute during a game.
The greater the total cognitive load is during a close and competitive ranked game, the more difficult it is for you to meet your role’s expectations.
Yes, Rocket League has an absurdly high (probably straight up infinite) mechanical skill ceiling. However, there simply isn’t that many variables to keep track of outside of mechanics.
Boosts, 1-3 enemies, 0-2 teammates, and the ball. The map and goal are static, and there’s no other resources of variables to track.
There literally just isn’t much information that your brain needs to compute during a game.
Compare that to the mental stack of a top 500 DPS player on Overwatch. Your cooldowns, positioning, matchups, objectives, and ults. All of those variables apply to each of the 5 individual enemies. Also, they apply to your 4 teammates. Also, you have to manage all of that informaton WHILE aiming well on one of (if not the) hardest mechanical FPS games.
Literally does not compare. Keep in mind, the bar for difficulty doesn’t stop at Overwatch.
MOBA’s, RTS games, and fighters are all EVEN HARDER than Overwatch. But, that’s a whole nother discussion to be had.
Oh and btw, I promise you: Your lack of awareness and understanding of the mental stack and how important your brain is? That’s a BIG part of why you’re hardstuck.
