Kurden und Israelis verstehen einander. Wir teilen nicht nur eine demokratische Kultur, sondern wir wissen, dass diese ständig bedroht ist. Für viele Europäer ist diese Bedrohung durch den politischen Islam abstrakt – noch. Die jungen Kurden hingegen, die heute hier waren, kennen diese tödliche Ideologie. Wir alle sollten ihre Geschichten hören: Die einen wurden vom IS entführt, die anderen haben als Teil der kurdischen Verbände gegen die Islamisten gekämpft. Alle Achtung für die, die bereit sind, gegen den Fanatismus zu kämpfen. Und für die, die für Verständigung eintreten. Juden, Kurden und andere Minderheiten werden einen neuen Nahen Osten schaffen. Today, I had the privilege of meeting with H.E. Ambassador Ron Prosor, Israel's Ambassador to Germany @IsraelinGermany , alongside a diverse Kurdish youth delegation based in Germany. What set this meeting apart was the remarkable diversity it brought together Kurds from all four parts of Kurdistan, representing a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, engaging in a formal dialogue with Israeli diplomacy. We discussed issues central to both our communities: democracy, counterterrorism, and combating hate speech, including antisemitism and anti-Kurdish sentiment. Germany's unique capacity to bring such communities together is a domestic strength and a strategic asset for European security and New Middle East stability. The Kurdish-Jewish relationship carries a shared experience of marginalization that serves as a practical foundation for real cooperation. The connections we build today can contribute to countering extremism and fostering more constructive dynamics across the region. My sincere thanks to Ambassador Ron Prosor and his team at the Israeli Embassy in Berlin for making this dialogue possible. I hope it marks the beginning of an ongoing exchange.
