On tape, Julie Johnson called Marc Veasey's seat "cushy" and said he didn't "do a damn thing." Rep. Veasey co-founded the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus and led landmark litigation against Texas voter ID laws. That's the record she dismissed.

Six states are voting today. Alabama. Georgia. Idaho. Kentucky. Oregon. Pennsylvania. The right to vote is foundational. Democrats will fight every effort to undermine free elections and fair representation in every state, because a democracy that suppresses votes is not a functioning democracy.

Eroding legal protections for voters does not happen in isolation. It weakens the foundation that every American relies on when they cast a ballot and expect that vote to count equally.

The Supreme Court's decision to gut the Voting Rights Act threatens Black voters and strikes at the integrity of representative democracy itself. Every community with a stake in fair elections should be paying close attention.
