The feeling that I could re-use code I wrote, is what got me hooked onto Nix. Chef, Puppet, and Ansible are at an unfair advantage. What makes Nix structurally different is the vertical integration between the OS and package manager.

@mitchellh We've started diving into this conversation over on the Nix/NixOS side in the last few months... Right now due to how we handle things, it's still ok. But looking forward reputation/"doacracy" based systems could help alleviate some pain while creating other problems...

I've been doing open source since I was a teenager (over 20yrs). And for the first time ever, I'm considering closing external PRs to my OSS projects completely. This will throw the baby out with the bathwater and I hate that, but we close auto-opened slop PRs every single day.

Our monorepo has grown to the point at which this kind of thing is necessary. Is there a more ergonomic option?

What's everyone's favorite terminal emulator at the moment? I'm still using iTerm but maybe it's time for a change 🤔

@marcelpociot As a very biased person... check out a mix of Ghostty + @floxdevelopment + Nix/NixOS for a few specific items. Happy to dig into the Nixiverse if you want!

@marcelpociot I am sticking to @mitchellh Ghostty for now particular reason other then it has the most crisp experience together with fishshell.com and @floxdevelopment.

This was probably true in the first ~5 years of Kubernetes’ life, but hasn’t been for at least the last ~3. You can stand up a pretty nice little cluster on Oracle following <github.com/nce/oci-free-c…> and build and provision with <tilt.dev> so you don’t hate your life. Use @floxdevelopment to create a reproducible development environment, including GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and you have a process that can be scaled up relatively easily with any Kubernetes provider. Now go find a “Docker Compose” host. I’ll wait here.
