Today we’re releasing Reflect Open, a complete rewrite of Reflect for the age of AI. It’s local-first and open source, and every note is stored as a Markdown file on your computer.

I love Reflect but have been struggling to make it fit with my AI workflows. …they just went and completely changed their core arch, in spite of their business model 🤯 1. So excited to keep using Reflect (& use it at work?!) 2. Crazy pivot. Kudos to making the hard decision
Reflect@reflectnotes

This creates an obvious innovator’s dilemma. Reflect Open overlaps with the product we already sell, and the desktop app is free. But trying to protect the old model by ignoring where software is heading felt like a mistake. If we didn’t build it, someone else would.

Some exciting news: I’m joining @OpenAI to work on ChatGPT’s web infrastructure. ChatGPT has become part of how millions of people think, work, and build, and I’m really looking forward to helping shape what comes next alongside the remarkable team behind it. Can’t wait to get started!

Was very excited for this, but unfortunately very little about this plugin process was tested. There's no way to successfully submit a plugin. Full list of issues I'm seeing so far: 1. Icon uploads dont work at all, 500 errors for both. 2. The process asks you to use the OpenAI developer plugin to generate a schema and upload it. The schema the plugin generates is out of date / missing fields. The app asks for app category as well, which the plugin doesn't fill. 3. The plugin submission guidelines you have to agree to 404s. 4. For the tool justification section, this is something that was in the chatgpt-app-submission.json, but it wasn't populated on upload. This was one of the main points of that schema. Without it, you have to manually fill 51 fields. Additionally, there are a lot of standard fields that don't make sense to provide justification for. IE `whoami` should be inferred to be readonly/not be destructive, and should only require justification if you deviate from standard settings for these fields. 5. Not a bug, but domain verification failed for a while because codex was using computer use to help me fill out the form. The computer use grabbed a screenshot of the auth token and OCR'd it, which failed. It took me some debugging but it's because the OCR swaped a 0 with a O. This resulted in an incorrect token. Recommend omitting 0/O from the hash. Normally I wouldn't include this, but since the recommended process was to use codex to help fill out the form, I figured its worth including. 6. On the Prompts page, the draft saved function happens on debounce when the user stops typing for a second. This blurs the field - if you're a slow typer, you have to click the field, add a character, click the field, add a character... etc etc. I type at 80-90 wpm and still got hit by this multiple times. 7. When you get to the end, you're blocked from submitting the app due to the icon 500 errors. It let me continue on without the icons however / they weren't marked as required in the first step. I ended up spending around 2 hours getting to the end, only to be blocked. @jxnlco - this is pretty disappointing for a launch. If you're wondering why you don't have any submissions, this is why.

I’m not satisfied with Chessable and other alternatives so I decided to make my own chess app to build and train my repertoires. I have more free time since I’m on pat leave, so I’m motivated to sweat the details and build with the "garage door up".
