Last week, we announced the Dealer Rating System coming to WSOP Live. Here’s the breakdown: we’re adding $100,000 in rewards for top rated dealers this summer. For each bracelet event, the top rated dealers will earn: 1st: $500 2nd: $300 3rd: $200 That’s $1,000 per bracelet event across 100 bracelet events. We heard the concern: “What if one tilted player gives a bad rating after a bad beat?” Ratings refresh for every event. Each bracelet event is a clean slate, and no unfair rating follows a dealer for the whole summer. For dealers, this program is only upside: a fresh chance every event to be recognized and rewarded. The goal is simple: reward the dealers who help make WSOP great.

To me, the bottom line on the topic is the clarity of the rules of engagement. Chess is played in absolute silence, and that's where my background is, so I naturally prefer to play with noises filtered out. Currently, one can achieve that using headphones. The choice of music is also a non-trivial part of performance optimization. If poker has to be played with loud background music streamed by the casino and people talking as loud as they like, even during the time when it's someone else's move - coupled with wider use of time banks - so it goes and I'll adapt. It is, however, a significant change in the rules. I'd prefer it to be aligned with norms of behavior that eliminate edge seeking by making noises designed specifically to make thinking difficult. If the rules go as far as prohibit bad smells, they should prohibit arbitrary noises. I am totally OK with speech play during one's move. Go ahead, knock yourself out. But when it's someone else's move, that person should be entitled to silence from the table, of he/she so desires.
