@BrynLaw Thanks as always for you and Tony’s fantastic commentary. It makes watching the highlights so much better on good days and even on bad days. MOT.
I’m rewatching the #LUFC game.
Kilman’s foul on Stach is ridiculous.
The ‘he got his shot away’ so the defender is at liberty to hit him (in this case with such reckless force that it causes ligament damage) - is one of the worst myths in football.
VAR deemed it a ‘natural coming together’.
Ally McCoist said: “I’m happy that’s not been given a foul”.
Literally 5 minutes later, Lukas Nmecha dives in to try and tackle Disasi.
Disasi ‘got his pass away.’
Nmecha didn’t actually touch him unlike the foul on Stach.
Ally McCoist: “He’s definitely late, I wasn’t sure he caught him.. no he doesn’t catch him, but that’s not to say he doesn’t fall awkwardly or land awkwardly.”
VAR called it a reckless challenge.
Result Nmecha got a yellow card - Disasi totally fine obviously because he wasn’t actually touched, and didn’t fall awkwardly.
So - if it’s in the outfield and a pass and you get your pass away - then get tackled - even if it’s not actually bad - it’s a yellow card.
But if it’s in the penalty box - and you get your shot away - then it’s a ‘natural coming together’ - even if you get injured by your opponent.
That is the very definition of inconsistent.
And it doesn’t help when the analyst is parroting a myth that has permeated football.
Stach’s ankle was caught in between Kilman’s legs - that’s how Struijk broke Harvey Elliot’s ankle a couple of seasons back.
Kilman slid in with excessive speed and force with a disregard for the safety of Stach - the very description of a reckless challenge - endangering an opponent.
It should not matter whether a shot or pass had been completed.
It should not matter whether it is outside the box or in the box.
It absolutely should matter if there was any actual contact or not.
In one case a guy has ligament damage the extent of which we do not know but it could be season ending - you can’t tell without a scan.
In another case the player was not touched at all - but gets an Oscar nomination for exceptional acting in a supporting role.
This is why 75% of fans hate VAR. It’s not because referees don’t need more help - they do.
It’s because consistent rationale and logic isn’t being applied, while myths are being perpetuated- and it doesn’t help when respected media figures with massive platforms are helping to spread the myth (VAR have the broadcast feed as well as their own footage).
Today is world Autism day. My son Harvey is autistic. He is the centre of our universe. Everyone in our home loves him to his core. There is not a bad bone in his body. He has struggled with different things in this neurotypical world since he came roaring into it nine short years ago but his attitude spirit and personality always prevail.
My wife deserves so much credit for her endless work to make his life easier. Autism is a spectrum. Any parent going through it knows it’s a constant worry. Kindness and understanding are not always there in the ‘real world’ and that is often the most difficult thing to navigate as a parent. It’s a daily struggle but nothing in comparison to the person who is autistic. Today in our house at least we celebrate our Harvey John for the unique talented amazing human that he is. #worldautismawarenessday#worldautismday#autism#love#understanding
Very candid from Marcelo Bielsa:
“I haven’t returned to Leeds mainly because the feeling of nostalgia is something, at times, one resists confronting
“I see it as one of the most beautiful memories football has given me” #lufc
Little murals vid for you, folks. Please Share if you like, and anyone near Mr Bielsa, please show him it, too, let him know we miss him here in Leeds. And Pablo for that matter! Peace & Love to all, esp Leeds fans of course 💙🤍💛
Great day out in Leeds yesterday for the @LUFC v @BrentfordFC game. Not the result we wanted but another point closer to safety hopefully ! 🙏💙💛
Great to meet @LeighNicholson again and bumped into a fellow Cork man Mick Lynch (even if he is a @BrentfordFC fan 😄
I remember the sport being ruined back in 2021 when the race director literally broke the rules and corrupted the integrity of the contest in the final race.
You were perfectly happy to accept the sport being ruined when it benefitted you.
We shall take no lectures. 👍
BREAKING: EVERYONE NEEDS TO HEAR THIS.
Senator Mark Kelly just completely torched Donald Trump:
"When Donald Trump was driving the Taj Mahal casino into bankruptcy, I was getting shot at over Iraq and Kuwait. In 2001, after Donald Trump said that the collapse of the Twin Towers now meant he now owned the tallest skyscraper in Manhattan, I was carrying flags honoring 911 victims into space on a rocket ship. In 2003, when Donald Trump was writing birthday greetings to the monster, Jeffrey Epstein, I was the first on the scene to recover the bodies of my fellow astronauts who died when Space Shuttle Columbia exploded during re-entry. In 2011, when Trump was hosting a reality show, and peddling conspiracy theories against President Barack Obama, I was sitting next to my wife’s hospital bed as she recovered from a gunshot wound to the head."
Tomorrow, I travel over from Dublin to Leeds with my son Samuel for his very first Leeds United game.
It’s hard to put into words what this means as a Father,
20 years ago, my dad took me to Elland Road for the first time and now, two decades later, I get to do it with my own boy.
The love for Leeds United runs deep in our family. It’s more than football it’s memories, it’s moments, and the people we share them with.
When I see him climb those steps and Elland Road opens up before him under the lights… I know I’ll feel my dad right there with us.
Hand in hand, singing Marching On Together, three generations connected by one club.
This is what Leeds United really means. 💛💙 @LUFC
