Leafs will either need to be busy at the draft flipping these assets, or all-in on free agency, which is dicier than ever with the cap high and many teams just keeping their good players. For a successful "retool," in the 2026-27 Atlantic, they got some work to do.

Leafs didn’t believe it was a priority over last couple years to re-sign one of the best two-way players in the game… a player who was equally adept at keeping possession of the puck for his team as he was taking it away from their opponents. This shouldn’t come as a surprise.
