With movies, I’ve found that there are two kinds of people. One cares more about ideas and less about execution. They’ll love something like The Last Jedi and be perplexed why others don’t enjoy it. The second kind of person cares about execution. They’ll hate something like The Last Jedi and can give you a list of complaints about what’s wrong and why it’d wrong. You can make a lot of progress in life by understanding if you’re the former or the latter. And even more progress in discussions if you can tell what someone else is. If you’re an execution person, you’ll never convince an idea person that Luke bizarrely slurping milk from a goofy creature is the dumbest shit ever, or that the weird dark side pull that leads Rey to a stupid mystery box vision is a complete waste of time and could have been better spent on a trillion other things… Likewise, if you’re an idea person, all the gushing about the beauty of Luke finding peace and the passing of the torch to Rey will never pierce the waves of anger radiating from the execution person. Learn who you are. Understand others. Have better movie discussions.
